Company Overview

Our products give farmers a fighting chance to meet the global demand for food. Without the crop yield improvements provided by potash and phosphate, the billions of mouths clamoring for more food would go unfed. That means that over the long term, demand for our fertilizers must increase.

We have the assets to meet the demand. We mine phosphate rock from nearly 200,000 acres of Mosaic-owned land in Central Florida, and we mine potash from five mines in North America, primarily in Saskatchewan. Our products are processed into crop nutrients, and then shipped via rail, barge and ocean-going vessel to our customers in the major agricultural centers of the world.

Making a Difference

Supporting communities is more than a tradition at Mosaic--it is ingrained in our culture. While our products nourish crops and livestock, we are committed to nourishing the communities in which we live and work through our community investment programs. Mosaic will provide support to organizations that fall within the following three core areas: Agriculture and Food, Education and Environment, Health and Safety.

Where We Give

Mosaic will provide support to organizations that fall within the following three core areas that align with our strategy.

Agriculture and Food

Our mission is to help the world grow the food it needs. We will support programs throughout the world that promote sustainable agriculture and integrated plans to help combat extreme poverty and hunger. Mosaic supports HELPS International and Millenium Promise with donations of fertilizer and financial support to promote sustainable agricultural practices in Guatemala and eight countries in Africa.

We play an active role in supporting education in our communities, with an emphasis on programs that focus on agriculture, food, mining and engineering. By maximizing our support for educational initiatives in these areas, we can meaningfully impact the public at large and invest in our future by training today's students to become tomorrow's employees, customers and advocates. Mosaic supports the National FFA, Hillsborough, Manatee and Polk County Education Foundations, Agriculture in the Classroom in Saskatchewan and Project Fura-bolo, the training of school staffs in Paranagua and Uberaba, Brazil.

Environment, Health and Safety

We will support initiatives that nurture the environment, conserve resources and promote responsible water and environmental management. Another top priority is employee health and safety awareness--in the workplace and at home. Mosaic supports Audubon of Florida, Safe Saskatchewan, the River Clean Up in Pekin, IL and Environment Week in Paranagua, Brazil.

Disaster and Emergency Relief

Additionally, Mosaic will take appropriate steps to respond to natural disasters or major emergencies that significantly affect our employees, customers or the strategic markets we serve. Donations may be made to charitable relief organizations to provide direct and timely relief. Last year Mosaic provided disaster relief to the Red Cross for the earthquake in China and flooding in the United States Midwest. We also made donations to the Florida Disaster Relief Fund and to the Baton Rouge Area Foundation for hurricane relief in Florida and Louisiana.

Mosaic will accept requests for grants that fall within the following core areas: Agriculture and Food, Education and Environment, Health and Safety.

Employee Engagement

Because community investment is a vital part of Mosaic's identity, and we know giving back to the community is characteristic of outstanding citizens and well-rounded employees, many Mosaic employees donate their time, expertise and financial support to nonprofit organizations such as the United Way, Rebuilding Together, the Mosaic Coastal Education Center and Character Links. Our employees also serve on boards of directors of nonprofit organizations. Mosaic is committed to supporting its employees' efforts to enrich communities all around the world.

United Way

When it comes to fundraising, one of the organizations we strongly support is the United Way. Mosaic has a strong tradition of annual employee campaigns. Each year since our first campaign in 2005, we have continued to build on this tradition. Mosaic employees understand that their donations to the United Way, whether large or small, improve the lives of those in need and strengthen the communities in which they live and work. In the 2008 campaign, Hooked on Giving, Mosaic employees donated $1.4 million that will be matched dollar for dollar by Mosaic. Mosaic once again won the Spirit of Tampa Award from the United Way of Tampa Bay, and Plymouth once again won Best in Show from the Greater Twin Cities United Way. In addition, both of our facilities in Louisiana had 100% participation.

In Our Communities

The Mosaic Village Team was formed in early 2008 in response to the growing international food crisis. The team is currently supporting three projects to help combat extreme hunger in India, Africa and Guatemala. With our financial support and crop nutrition donations, we are improving irrigation infrastructure, promoting sustainable agricultural practices and providing agronomic advice to some of the poorest farmers in the world. The first crop in Guatemala showed great results. Yields increased from one metric tonne per hectare to approximately 4 metric tonnes per hectare.
