4. Employee Development
On-the-job Experiences
Experience makes up the largest part of development as employees work through tasks in their role at the Company. There are special job assignments that may involve new initiatives or locations at the company. Cross-functional teams are also a way to gain access to and learn from different types of skills and backgrounds.
Education
Agrium uses regular channels for new employees to orient them not only on Company policies but also on our business, nutrients and a review of plant basics. Documents on our business, and the science we use, are available on our Intranet.
Opportunities such as training, apprenticeships, conference participation, internal forums and train-the-trainer workshops allow for learning and leadership training by giving employees an opportunity to put their new skills into action. Agrium Wholesale also sponsors employees to take external education programs. A subsidy of up to $3,000 per annum is available to support tuition and other costs for approved programs.
Feedback
Leaders provide employees with both formal and informal mentoring and coaching. This is typically linked to Agrium’s Formula for Success, which provides criteria for accessing behaviours that will support employees in achieving success.
External Knowledge
Agrium Wholesale also supports our employees who will benefit from specialized training from conferences, seminars or at a local educational institution. External knowledge can also come in the form of belonging to professional associations or getting professional designations.
The employee development process within Agrium Wholesale will enable you to identify meaningful developmental goals to help you attain your growth aspirations.
5. Work/Life Balance
This is a very important piece of Agrium’s success in finding the right fit for us and the new candidate. Agrium offers flex-days, 2/quarter, that you can take through out the quarter for an extra vacation day, long weekend, or just to catch up. This helps keep your work/life balance on the top of your list. Along with 8 to 5 work days, there is flexibility in your schedule. There is also a gym facility at our head office to make sure that we know that your health is just as important.
All full-time hires will receive 3 weeks of vacation, as well as the flex-days every quarter. Depending where it is that you are located, if you are located at one of our plant site, you will most likely work a 9/80 schedule. Where you work 9 hour days and receive every second Friday off, it is a long weekend every second week.
