Anglesey Aluminium's smelter at Holyhead, North Wales in the United Kingdom, a joint venture with Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corporation, has been in operation since 1971, producing aluminium in various forms suitable for extruding, rolling and re-smelting. It is one of the largest suppliers of aluminium metal in the UK. Electricity for the smelter is supplied under a 5.5 year contract which was renewed in March 2000. Process and productivity efficiencies have lifted production to nearly 140,000 tonnes per year. Anglesey employs about 550 people.
