COAL
Rio Tinto has a 76 per cent interest in Coal & Allied (CNA) which is managed by Rio Tinto Coal Australia. Coal & Allied's assets are located within the Upper Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Australia. The operations include Hunter Valley Operations (100 per cent), Mount Thorley Warkworth (Mount Thorley 80 per cent, Warkworth 55.57per cent), Bengalla (40 per cent) and the proposed Mount Pleasant development (100 per cent). CNA produces 24.9 million tonnes of thermal coal and 3.6 million tonnes of coking coal per year for customers in Japan, Mexico, Europe, Australia and South East Asia. CNA employs approximately 1500 people and has been in operation for 150 years.
