Professional Development Program

The Hatch Professional Development Program (PDP) is a global initiative aimed at developing engineering excellence. The Hatch PDP helps to coordinate, enrich and focus your early career development. Hatch provides a flexible framework in which to achieve professional status and consequently to meet both your personal and professional goals. This program serves as an introduction to future professional development opportunities offered at Hatch.

What does this program offer?

  • Mentoring support
  • Exposure to a variety of challenging work experiences and career pathways, both domestic and international
  • Support for regional certifications and a flexible framework to achieve professional status (professional certification processes may vary between regions)
  • Continuous learning and development opportunities including:
    • KEG (Keep Education Going) Sessions: An opportunity for Senior Staff, Mentors and Leads to share their experience and insight with the graduate group on various topics of interest
    • YP (Young Professional) Sessions: An opportunity to gain knowledge from other young professionals at Hatch
    • Social and Team building Events: An opportunity to share industry and corporate experiences through networking, and meeting other professionals
    • Technical and Core Skills Training Courses: An opportunity to attend targeted training offered internally and externally to assist professional development and ensure chartered status is achieved

Student Programs

Vacation Student Program

Hatch runs work experience programs annually for undergraduate students typically over the summer vacation period.

You will experience opportunities on a variety of projects working in the office and on site with graduate engineers and senior engineers in our mining and metals, energy and infrastructure sectors.

Upon commencement you will have an induction program awaiting you which will ensure you settle quickly into the organization.  As part of the program, you will be exposed to our Professional Development Program and buddies will be assigned to support you during your time with Hatch.

Vacation work duties may include:

  • Engineering design and project work
  • Database design/management
  • Research projects
  • General administrative duties

The benefits of vacation work:

  • Gain first hand practical experience and be able to put into practice what you've studied
  • Obtain work in an area that you're interested in and which also relates to your future career direction
  • Work alongside qualified and experienced staff
  • Be considered for a graduate position at the completion of your studies
  • Earn some extra money while studying

Hours & Location:

  • Committing to vacation employment doesn't necessarily mean making a commitment for the full 12 weeks of summer vacation
  • Employment can be offered for all or part of the normal vacation period and can be a part time or more casual arrangement

Who we are looking for:

Successful candidates are likely to have the follow characteristics:

  • Currently studying a Bachelor of Engineering and/or Bachelor or Science degree
  • High standards and history of achievement both academically and personally
  • Shared beliefs of our values including innovation, respect, communication and integrity
  • Advanced analytical and problem solving skills
  • The passion and drive to make a real difference

Minimum Requirements:

  • Currently studying a relevant degree or a degree accredited to an Engineering discipline. i.e. Civil, Mechanical, Structural, Chemical, Electrical, Mining etc.
  • Hold citizenship, permanent residency or a work visa which allows you to work at Hatch in the region you've applied, on a full time basis

Hatch Green Office Initiatives

Hatch Global, in an effort to sensitize employees of their personal impact on the Earth's ecosystem and to encourage action to reduce their ecological carbon footprint, has green initiatives under way in all major offices.

While each region actively promotes initiatives they feel is important to maintaining a sustainable environment and workplace, all of Hatch's major offices participate in:

  • Sustainable development education
  • Recycling stations for paper, cans, bottles and electronics
  • Reusable / eco-friendly cutlery, plates and cups
  • Recycled paper
  • Double-sided printing

Canada

  • Carpool and cycling program which has saved more than 700 tons of CO2 and as of August 2010 has removed more than 900 automobiles off the roads each month
  • Reduced lighting and air conditioning usage in summer months during periods of high electrical demand
  • Water reduction programs
  • After-hours zoned office lighting systems
  • Donation of old computers to charitable organizations
  • Indoor bicycle locker to promote employees biking to work
  • Participation in government energy and environment programs
  • Participation in bike to work week
