Industry Leader

Today, a new generation of Suncor pioneers is pushing the limits of innovation in sustainable development — using technology to realize the huge potential of the oil sands resource while minimizing our environmental footprint.

The combination of Suncor Energy and Petro-Canada creates a globally competitive, Canadian-based integrated energy company with a balanced portfolio of high-quality assets, a strong balance sheet and significant growth prospects.

We’re putting our knowledge base and pioneering spirit to work on this new frontier. Being the leader is Suncor’s advantage — make it your advantage, too.

Our Reputation

Working at Suncor means working for a company you can be proud of. Suncor fuels the economy, contributes to communities and leads the way in environmental stewardship.

And instead of measuring one bottom line—our profits—we use a triple bottom line approach. We value financial, social and environmental performance.

Leadership on climate change. We have a comprehensive action plan to address climate change that includes reducing emissions through energy efficiency.

Reducing environmental impacts and costs. We invest in technologies and practices that help reduce our environmental footprint, including initiatives such as solid waste recycling and reducing land disturbance. Employee innovation and problem solving drive our progress.

Developing renewable energy. Our renewable energy business is a significant part of our action plan on climate change. To date, Suncor has invested $250 million in wind power projects and is the largest ethanol producer in Canada with production of 200 million litres per year.

Commitment to communities. Suncor supports our communities and our employees living in them with investments of both money and volunteer time.

Our efforts have earned us international recognition. We are included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and the FTSE4Good Index, two key international benchmarks for socially and environmentally responsible investment

Compensation & Benefits

At Suncor, we believe people who contribute to our success should share in the rewards — both monetary and non-monetary. We take a "total rewards" approach that includes compensation, benefits, career development and wellness programs to support work-life commitments. Our top-ranked benefits include comprehensive health care plans, competitive retirement and savings plans and generous time off — all in a flexible package that can be adjusted to suit the changing needs of you and your family.

Compensation. Our compensation package is designed to "pay for performance," which means Suncor provides competitive base pay with the ability to earn additional rewards through annual and long-term incentives, performance bonuses and stock options. Employees who excel in their roles and demonstrate high potential have the opportunity for additional financial recognition.

Benefits. Suncor’s benefits package is an important part of the total rewards package. It includes a pension and savings plan package that is rated among the best in the industry. It also provides a menu of benefits options — health and dental plans, prescription drug coverage, life, accident and disability insurance, and a health spending account that provides for additional expenses (such as eyeglasses, massage therapy and orthodontic work) not covered by the dental/medical plans. The flexible nature of our plans means employees can personalize their benefits packages to suit their needs.

It’s not all about work. With our increasingly demanding lifestyles, many employees are looking for programs that help achieve success at work and at home. All Suncor employees have access to a free and confidential Employee and Family Assistance Program and educational assistance for courses relevant to work. Depending on which area of Suncor they work in, employees can also take advantage of flexible working hours, as well as seminars on topics such as financial planning, communicating with teenagers and managing elder care.

Employees receive generous paid vacation time, which ranges from two to six weeks per year, depending on years of service and experience level. In addition to vacation days and holidays, eligible employees also personal time off days. These ''personal time-off days" are intended to give employees extra time for doctor appointments, family activities or the ability to pursue personal interests.

Suncor also encourages community involvement by providing financial assistance to the non-profit organizations supported by employees, including matching grants to post-secondary institutions and fundraising grants.

The compensation and benefits program provided to Suncor employees may differ depending on job assignment and job location
