Rewards & Benefits
Although Shell is very much a team-oriented organization, we recognize that every individual has different strengths and weaknesses - that's why we offer tailored development programs. We know that different people have their own ambitions and aspirations, which is why we give everybody the freedom to pursue their own individual career path. And we also realize that when it comes to rewards and benefits, people have differing priorities. If you join us, we'll make every effort to provide the kind of rewards and benefits that will complement your own particular lifestyle and needs.

Different businesses and locations may vary in terms of the specific packages they offer, but as a general guide, here are a few of the ways we reward and support our employees.
Financial Rewards & Benefits program
Our competitive salaries reflect both the market conditions in Canada and the levels of skills and experience we need to remain at the forefront of our industry. Individual contributions are recognized and rewarded through performance-related pay and bonuses. Our benefits typically include pension/retirement plans and healthcare coverage.
In some locations, we offer subsidized services such as sports facilities, medical and dental care and car parking.
We also offer the chance to participate in a ESPP program.
What is ESPP?
The Shell Canada Employee Share Purchase Plan (ESPP) is part of your total compensation. The ESPP is an investment plan that provides an easy and convenient way for you to purchase and accumulate Royal Dutch Shell (RDS) shares through payroll deduction. For each four shares you purchase, Shell Canada purchases an additional share on your behalf (a 25% match).
Balancing work and life
We provide flexible working practices wherever necessary and operationally possible. You may be able to ‘telecommute’ and work from home. Some locations and businesses can also offer flex-time working – enabling you to start your work day earlier or later to fit your needs. Further, to meet the needs of an increasingly virtual environment, you could even work out of your base location in a regional or global role.
Time off and time out
We know that your time away from work is valuable, so we offer competitive vacation and flex days, in addition to statutory designated and floating holidays. We also accommodate career breaks and sabbaticals wherever feasibly possible. In addition, employees are encouraged to step outside of purely work boundaries to participate in other areas of interest such as social responsibility projects as part of Shell Project Better World, employee interest groups or campus recruitment, which offers the chance to meet with university students.
Sports and social activities
Whatever your interests, there’s likely to be a Shell sports and social group that you can get involved with – for example, Chinook Social Club, Active Living Centre, Shell Aboriginal Employee Network and many more.
Listening to our employees
We regularly survey our employees to find out if there are any issues that need to be addressed or improved. This can take the form of online surveys, discussion forums or interactive webcasts. As an example, the Shell People Survey is conducted online on a regular, global basis. This gives everyone a chance to make suggestions on improving our work environment, to input into policies or to address areas of concern.
Professionals - Career Progression
At Shell, career progression underpins our whole business strategy. By giving each individual the support and training they need to grow and develop, we recognize that in turn, you'll be able to contribute to both your own personal growth and our success as a business.
As well as our internally developed professional training and development programmes, we offer support on an ad hoc basis to meet individuals' needs and aspirations. We also have dedicated Leadership Programmes. But our career progression isn't confined to specific initiatives - at Shell, it's part of every day life…
We can help you progress your career because we’re:
Global
Because we operate in over 140 countries, we have unrivalled international opportunities and you can expect to work with colleagues from all around the world. You’ll benefit from a range of opportunities to exchange expertise, be exposed to projects in every corner of the globe, and contribute as part of a highly diverse international team towards the continuing success of one of the world’s most important brands.
Supportive
We encourage every individual to explore their potential – whatever their needs, ambitions or circumstances. We’re committed to providing the training and development you need to reach your own personal goals. From on-the-job learning and training for recognized professional qualifications to personal development programs, ‘buddy’ schemes and regular appraisals, we offer tools you’ll need to develop your skills and knowledge.Â
Challenging
We’ll give you every opportunity to stretch yourself and to take on increasing responsibility. The energy market is highly competitive so you can expect constant challenges in your work. Currently, the focus on renewable energy sources has created a range of exciting opportunities. From hydrogen fuel cells and hot rocks to solar and wind power, the new technologies offer infinite possibilities for ambitious professionals.
Innovative
Our work environment is characterised by forward thinking – we encourage creativity and invite new ideas to direct change and success. We have processes in place across the organisation to help us innovate. GameChanger, for example, is a global process that enables anyone, anywhere to propose, nurture and mature ground-breaking ideas to impact the business.
Diverse
We’ll give you every opportunity to pursue the wealth of different possibilities provided by both our technical and commercial operations. And it’s not just our jobs that are diverse. Whether you’re working on a remote offshore oil rig, a rural wind farm, or an inner-city service station, the same principles apply – respect and appreciation of differences in culture, nationality, religion and taste. In this way, we learn, develop and share the benefits with our customers, employees, shareholders and the countries and communities where we operate.
Inclusive
At Shell, we welcome and value contributions from every member of the team, no matter what your background or level. We’re committed to giving you the confidence to determine your own future and enrich the organisation with your input. We even have a specific department to manage Diversity and Inclusiveness (D&I) within the organisation. Amongst other things, its purpose is to manage D&I as a critical business activity, value the cultural and personal differences of our people and provide a means for employees to share personal support, learning, self-development and communication.
Rewarding
You’ll feel motivated and secure in your ongoing career progression because we recognize and reward your achievements. Everyone has different priorities. In recognition of that, we make every effort to provide the kind of rewards and benefits that will complement your own particular lifestyle and needs.
