Accounting Manager

Company Overview:

Hibbing Taconite is a leading iron ore mining company which began production in 1976 and has an annual plant capacity of 8.0 million tons of iron ore. ArcelorMittal, US SteelandCleveland-Cliffs are partners in Hibbing Taconite, with ArcelorMittal owning a majority stake.

Cliffs Mining Company is the current manager of Hibbing Taconite joint venture. In August 2019, ArcelorMittal USA will assume the role of manager and at that time Hibbing Taconite employees will join the ArcelorMittal USA Team under ArcelorMittal Hibbing Management LLC.


Maintains processes and procedures to follow Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Accounting Manager supervises the general accounting and payroll personnel and supports Area Manager-Finance. Oversees and participates in the monthly financial close and reporting. Facilitates and participates in the quarterly forecasting process.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Direct supervision of general accounting and payroll personnel and functions.
  • Monitors& completesthe financial close process throughout the month and at month-end.
  • Issues Joint Venture Financial Statements
  • Develops and updates accounting policies and procedures to document and enhance current practices.
  • Maintains worker's compensation liability calculations and accruals. Perform inventory reserve calculations. Perform balance sheet analysis. Complete general ledger account reconciliations. Record and maintain mining royalty accruals, payouts, and leaseholder information.
  • Supports quarterly current estimates & budgets as needed.
  • Support and act aspointof contact for internal/external audit requests.
  • File tax documents to corporate and/or government entities.
  • Provide support and fill in for site controller as needed. Provide ad hoc analysis as needed.


• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

• CPA or equivalent certification preferred.

• Minimum of fiveyearsaccounting experience including either public accounting and/or private accounting.

• Consolidationaccounting experience desired.

• Have a thorough understanding of accounting principles and analytical skills.

• High level of computer skills especially in Excel.

  • Skillsin Hyperion, Microsoft Access, and Business Objects a plus.
  • Mustbe able to prepare own reports and present to senior management.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Ability to perform public speaking duties.

• Willingness to grow personally and professionally.

• Demonstrated enthusiasm, honesty, and ability to work with minimal supervision.

• Have strong interpersonal skills withcollaborativestyle of solving problems.
