When you are a Business Development Manager at Caterpillar, you will help grow the business profitably, via the development of customer facing strategic initiatives; working closely with our mining customers to identify issues they are dealing with, while developing and proposing outcome-based solutions to help them with their success. You will be part of the fast growing MineStar Solutions organization, working alongside of key business partners, such as Caterpillar's Technology & Innovation Group, and key Mining Product Groups. Furthermore, you will engage with our Dealers to help define the role they will have in delivering the solution in conjunction with our MineStar Product Group.

Job Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Work in a timely fashion to define Statements of Work with customers who you and the broader MineStar team have identified as target accounts.
  • Execute the marketing and sales development process, which culminate in successful business proposals for our autonomy products and services, specifically for surface drilling.
  • Working with the Area Sales Team to manage the proposal through the sales process and driving business results.
  • Setting and attaining aggressive, profitable sales targets
  • Provide VOC input for requirements of future development work coming into the MineStar Product Group.
  • Respond to requests for help from clients in complicated design and development issues/problems (both long and short term and strategic or operational), define these problems, and structure a course to develop a long-term vision for their business along with alternative plans and solutions.
  • Understand the competitive landscape on a regional, market segment and technical competency basis, and provide market and competitive intelligence into the MineStar Commercial Team.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Business; Mine, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • 10 + years in commercial roles including sales, product requirements, marketing and solutions development
  • Worked in the surface drilling industry either for a mining company, OEM, or consultant

Top candidates will also have:
  • 5+ years working in the drill - blast function within a surface mine
  • MBA
  • Sound management, technical and commercial skills gained from a broad range of assignments
  • An understanding of the Caterpillar Surface Mining business and able to identify strategic business opportunities that would fit within the enterprise.
  • Good managerial and communications skills, with demonstrated ability to get results through people and ability to interact with internal and external parties at all levels, including senior executives.
  • Be a strategic thinker; have initiative, outstanding verbal and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Be a boundary-less team player with excellent facilitation skills and have a high level of motivation and enthusiasm with unwavering integrity.

Additional Information:

This position requires up to 50% travel.

The position can be located in East Peoria, IL, Tucson, AZ, Denison, TX or working remotely from home in the United States of America.
