Overview

  • The Business Manager - Standard Calcium Products is responsible for achieving business results and leading commercial activities for the Standard Quicklime and Standard Hydrated Lime product lines.  The position will lead business management efforts for standard products by driving the implementation of strategic plan milestones, developing competitive pricing strategies, monitoring and analyzing market intelligence and competitive dynamics, driving target account efforts, identifying future customer and market needs, and interfacing with both customers and operations.  The Business Manager must be a strong team player as they will work closely with and coordinate efforts among Sales & Marketing, Operations, Supply Chain, Customer Service, Logistics, Technical Service and R&D. The Business Manager must be customer focused and will have direct customer interactions. Responsibilities

  • Leads commercial business management for standard quicklime and standard hydrated lime product lines in conjunction with the overall strategic plan.
  • Responsible for day-to-day tactics and long term goals to drive business results and protect/grow profitability.
  • Works with Sales & Marketing leaders to develop and drive product and market strategies and milestones.
  • Serves as product pricing champion; develops and makes recommendations on pricing strategies based on competitive analysis and market landscape; serves as clearing house for pricing with Sales; works closely with Sales to implement price changes and develop pricing justifications.
  • Tracks and understands market dynamics, competitive landscape and customer trends. Identifies key issues and opportunities and makes recommendations to Sales & Marketing leadership team.
  • Key liaison between sales managers/customers and corporate/operations teams. Works closely with Product Manager(s) to address customer product, supply and services issues and opportunities.
  • Supports annual product line budgeting and leads monthly reporting; manages performance to budget; tracks and understands key customer changes, supply/demand and market trends; identifies and communicates changes and developments.
  • Supports development of market and product planning and makes recommendations on the strategies, tactics and resources necessary to achieve organizational objectives and business goals.
  • Drives target account process; supports the evaluation and prioritization of targets; leads monthly target account calls; identifies and evaluates opportunities for select products, markets and assets. Guides Sales based on strategic direction, current market and competitive intelligence, and impact to profitability.
  • Maintains a strong customer focus with direct customer interactions including routine travel to customer accounts.
  • Active support for the new product development and market development efforts.
  • Participates in professional associations, shows and activities related to the lime industry and major end-use markets.
  • Supports preparation of tools to drive product line results including, brochures, trade show activities, internet requirements.
  • Works closely with operations to ensure that their priorities support the marketing and sales efforts and are ultimately directed at bottom line impacts.  

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or Business is required. MBA preferred.
  • Candidate must have a minimum of four years prior experience in sales, marketing, engineering, or finance. Commercial experience preferred.
  • Strategic and analytical mindset; capable of dealing with high-volume day-to-day tactical activities while still maintain long-term view.
  • Results-oriented and self-starter with a sense of urgency that proactively seeks opportunities to drive improvement across the business.
  • Ability to influence across teams and levels in a leadership capacity.
  • Must be a strong team player able work with both internal and external customers.
  • Experience in market development, product line management, or territory management beneficial.
  • Understands key financial principles and financial statements.
  • Good written, verbal and presentation skills; advanced excel capabilities preferred. Able to travel.
