Scope and Complexity

  • The position is viewed as the top Information Services (IS) position in the business unit. The BUC works with the business unit to define strategies and determine how IS can be used to improve the business. An effective BUC will sit in the general manager's staff meetings and contribute to the strategic direction of the Ready Mix business.
  • The Business Unit Consultant is also viewed as an individual contributor. The position may have direct reports when required by specific projects or in times of significant workloads.
  • The BUC must have a Business Process orientation. The BUC will be driven to integrate the individual Ready Mix departments through business process methodology. Most people associate themselves with a department. Trying to change the Ready Mix associates towards a process orientation is a difficult (but necessary) task.

Job Summary

  • Matrix reporting to the Vice President of Southwest Ready Mix. Responsible for aligning IT with the Business Unit's strategic plan. Develops the Business Unit's IT strategy. Works as liaison between the Business Unit and Information Services. Responsible for developing and measuring Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to ensure that the Business Unit is receiving appropriate service from Information Services.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes and redesigns business processes and functions. Redesigned processes will support strategic business goals such as reducing cost or improving customer service.
  • Works with business leaders to determine Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and the metrics to measure them.
  • Works with the Solution Delivery group to develop project scope documents, AFE support documentation (if required), and project plans and test plans.
  • Works with the Solution Delivery group to document business requirements and determine features and functions of software to be developed/deployed.
  • Gathers and documents business requirements and determines features and functions of software to be developed/deployed.
  • Helps prioritize, fund and manage Business Unit's IT backlog.
  • Works with business users to fulfill reporting/information needs.
  • Responsible for obtaining the appropriate resources (IT and Business Unit) associated with a specific business project.
  • Can function as a team member, lead IT analyst, Project Leader or Team Leader for a particular project. Incumbent is ultimately responsible for quality of deliverables.
  • Assists Business Unit in prioritization and scope definition of potential projects.
  • Assists Business Unit in identifying and quantifying project risks and opportunities.
  • Performs other job-related tasks as assigned.

Knowledge/Experience

  • 7+ years’ functional experience in one or more business disciplines. Must be able to understand and design complex business processes. Must be able to 'think outside the box'.
  • Various levels of management experience in a medium/large IT environment.
  • Possesses horizontal knowledge of business processes.
  • Develops specifications that solve business problems.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of IT tools and their capabilities.
  • Strong Oral and Written skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with people at all levels of the organization.

Education Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree.
  • An MBA a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to read and write in the English language.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time (up to 8 hrs.), stand, stoop and bend.
  • Verbal communication via telephone and written correspondence.
  • Handle varied workloads.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
  • Manual dexterity and visual ability to operate a PC
