Must have criteria:

  • COMSOC 1 certificate
  • SAMTRAC certificate

  • Minimum 4 years Mining Environ experience
  • Valid certificate of physical fitness

  • Report writing and presentation skills
  • Computer literacy (Excel, Word)
  • Contracts handling experience

Primary Purpose Of The Job:

  • Responsible to ensure compliance with all legislative requirement s, including:
  • Overall compliance with section 11 of the MHSA regarding Risk Assessments;
  • Duties with regards to regulation 2.19.3 of the Mineral Act regarding accident investigation, identification of critical working areas, training requirement compliance all employees, safety officer inspections, required safety reports (internal and external) and safety meetings (all levels;
  • Formal inspections in terms of regulation 2.19.1 of the Mineral Act on all underground workings, all surface areas and contractions;
  • Responsible to manage the internal SHEC Management System, including:
  • Plan task observation requirements;

Safety Statistics

  • Capturing of all documentation onto the SHEC Management System
  • Functionality, communication and utilization
  • Managing safety structure, including Safety Representation (Part Time and Full Time), SHEC Committee, Safety Officers, and Junior Safety and Safety Admin Personnel;
  • Effectively managing the safety budget to cover all internal and external requirements;

Responsible for the following Ad Hoc admin duties:

  • Legal appointments (all levels)
  • Drafting committee (Section 9 of the MHSA) – Compile and revision of Mandatory Codes of Practice, Standard Operating Procedures, Managerial Instructions, Safety Flashes and Training Manuals
  • Reporting of accidents and dangerous occurrences in terms of Regulation 23 of the MHSA.
  • This role requires involvement with all working aspects of the company to ensure positive contribution toward this safety culture.
