We are looking for a Chemical Engineering Intern – Quality Control plays a key role in our achieving best practice performance in our cement products manufacturing, projects and operations. This role is a great opportunity to provide operational and technical contribution to studies, projects and operations, in achieving best practice safety, operational and financial performance.

This position will reside in Speed, IN.

What you’ll get to do:

  • Engineer will complete technical projects to gain an understanding of the operations of a cement plant and the cement industry, as well as gain practical application of engineering skills. 
  • Actively supports different key functions in Maintenance, Production and Quality by developing inspection processes, establishing work procedures and evaluating processes. 
  • Progresses through a phased process designed to prepare the individual for a starting engineering position within a cement plant.
  • Gain a basic understanding of the cement making process from all aspects; including raw material extraction, basic chemistry and mineralogy, quality and product requirements and testing, cement manufacturing processes and equipment, central control operations, process optimization and engineering, maintenance and mechanical engineering, and product preparation and shipment.
  • Learn the mission of the production, maintenance, and quality departments and different job roles and functions.
  • Follow plant and MSHA Safety Policies, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment. Maintain an awareness of plant environmental standards. Takes corrective action to address minor problems or reports compliance issues to appropriate supervisor for resolution.

Who we are looking for:

  • Enrolled in University of Louisville School of Engineering
  • Must have a strong desire to work in a heavy industrial environment
  • Must have an interest in learning about and working on heavy machinery
  • Prior manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt to change and respond well under pressure
  • Solid interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast paced environment
