This position is responsible for performing a variety of clerical work in support of the Material’s Division. Customer Service supports the Aggregate, Asphaltic Concrete and Readymix sales departments as well as internal stakeholders including division management, Finance, and Credit.   Primary responsibilities are fielding customer service calls, providing material quotations as necessary, scheduling orders or submittals and researching billing problems and complaints.   This position also is responsible for preparing daily billings. There are no supervisory responsibilities.


  1. Answers incoming customer calls. Assists customers with invoice, price, product and other questions in a manner that is positive, professional and clearly understood; takes or completes customer orders or processes submittals, answers customer questions, and enters product information into a company software program.
  2. Edits delivery or sales tickets, may verify product amounts; corrects errors as necessary and processes for billing submission to the Accounts Receivable department.
  3. Processes quotes and orders generated by the Sales department; maintains price lists.
  4. Researches billing discrepancies; generates and processes credit memos and re-bills as needed. Provides support to inside and outside customers.
  5. May process a weekly sales report and other miscellaneous reports as needed by management.
  6. Works with the following software systems: JWS, Command Alkon, Viewpoint, Microsoft Office
  7. Promotes a Zero Injury culture through personal adherence to all company safety policies and practices.
  8. Use a credit card processing machine to perform cash sale billings and/or refunds, makes cash deposits.
  9. Provides backup for Ready Mix accounts payable and payroll.

A High School diploma or G.E.D. or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.


One year of experience in a customer service or call center environment.   A basic understanding of the Aggregates, Readymix and/or Construction industry is desired.

  • Must possess basic computer software skills including Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Must demonstrate the ability to learn department and industry specific computer programs such as Viewpoint construction software, JWS, and CommandAlkon.
  • Must demonstrate basic mathematical abilities including adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and a basic understanding of fractions, percentages, and units of measure.
  • Must possess a high level of customer service skills by including patience, courtesy and phone etiquette.
  • Must be able prioritize and manage multiple assignments and recognize when to seek assistance.
  • Must be able clearly communicate and be understood both verbally and in written form by internal and external customers.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to work in a team environment and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff and management.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver License and must maintain an acceptable driving record when driving is a job requirement.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS – Employees will experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time:

Viewing of computer monitor.   Keyboarding; use of fingers to make small movements such as typing and mouse usage.   Sitting for long periods of time. May require driving to plant sites.   Position may require lifting of materials up to10 lbs.   Some locations may require the climbing of stairs.


Typical office environment with adequate temperatures and lighting, low levels of noise.   Plant locations may contain dust, fumes, debris, and medium to loud levels of noise.   If applicable, mandatory quarterly inventory requires walking on uneven ground and the necessity of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) to be worn for safety reasons.
