  • Provides safety and health support and guidance to all DOT facilities in the division, with particular emphasis on the aggregate trucking business unit.
  • Serves as the division ‘expert’ on DOT and other trucking-related regulations and assists facility managers with compliance efforts.
  • Works with the trucking managers to fulfill all safety and compliance related issues and coordinates closely with Corporate SHE, Human Resources and other Division specialists to embed a "One [Company] " way of trucking safety and compliance.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Implement standardized processes for Driver Background Checks, Pre-Employment Medical Screening & DOT Physicals, Previous Employer Release of Information, etc. in coordination & conjunction with Human Resources (HR), Safety, Health Environmental (SHE), and Operations Personnel;
  • Implement standardized procedures for hours of service compliance in coordination & conjunction with HR, SHE, and Operations Personnel;
  • Prepare and submit required Federal and State DOT Trucking Registrations, Licensing, Compliance Reports, etc.;
  • Conduct incident investigations, root-cause analysis, follow-up, and closure of action items, and leverage learning across organization for all commercial vehicle accidents involving Company personnel and/or equipment; including corrective action plan co-development (with trucking manager), implementation and follow-up;
  • Work with Transportation Personnel to implement and manage detailed, proactive systems to ensure compliance with Federal and State DOT Trucking regulations and Company requirements, with a strong emphasis on a Management Systems approach to compliance;
  • Conduct Trucking & Transportation applicability determinations, compliance audits, and risk assessments to ensure effective and sustainable implementation of Regulatory and Company requirements at each of terminal location;
  • Communicate impact summaries of future regulatory changes to SHE Leadership and Operations Management;
  • Seek out industry best practices and more effective and efficient methods to achieve Operational Excellence in Incident Prevention and DOT Trucking Compliance; including staying abreast of all DOT and regulatory changes and trends;
  • Assist with health & safety technical guidance, plan/procedure development and implementation, incident notification/response, and other routine compliance issues and requests;
  • Conduct and contribute to safety meetings and driver training programs on a recurring basis; and
  • Monitor third-party vendor systems and reports for driver qualification, and communicate with Terminal Managers to ensure only qualified drivers are dispatched.


Education, Experience, Skills Required

  • A Minimum of 3 - 5 years of relevant DOT experience required.
  • A college degree in DOT/OSHA Health & Safety or a related field is required, although relevant work experience may substitute for formal education.
  • A thorough knowledge of federal, state, OSHA and DOT regulations is required.
  • Must have excellent planning, organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Desire to work, at times, out of the office to coordinate closely with managers, administrators and haulers in the field on safety and compliance issues.
