Glencore's McArthur River Mine (MRM) is a world-class zinc-lead mine with a long future. You'll find our mine in the Gulf of Carpentaria 900 km southeast of Darwin and 64 km from Borroloola. We produce and process zinc, lead and silver from our open cut mine. It's then stored and transported to our Bing Bong loading facility and is shipped to our customers all over the world. Our customers use our essential commodities in everyday products for mobility, infrastructure and communications.

At MRM, we're looking for a ‘hands on' Environmental Technician, keen to take on the challenge of working in an isolated and remote location. You'll work alongside our team of experts where your focus will be on accurately collecting environmental monitoring samples. You have a degree in Environmental Science (or similar), ideally with field experience in either mining, consultancy or construction industries.

As a Glencore team member, we want to set you up for success by giving you the opportunity to experience the uniqueness of the NT Gulf environment supported by our leading environmental scientists and consultants. You'll be actively involved in a range of monitoring programs including surface and groundwater, microscopic macroinvertebrates and shore bird migration. Your typical day might include; 4WDriving your way to one of our local streams to collect samples, drafting monitoring reports, assisting with investigations, supervising projects, keeping our databases up to date, jumping in a helicopter to collect water samples and ensuring our state of the art equipment is calibrated and ready for the next task.

You are an ambassador for safety and environment - protecting our environment and preserving the safety of yourself and your mates by regularly completing environmental inspections, safe work observations and hazard identification. We will help you connect with new colleagues so you can build strong work relationships, grow your knowledge of the mining and metals industry and provide you with a supportive environment that lets you drive your own learning.

The role reports to the Senior Environmental Advisor and is FIFO from Darwin, working 15 days on and 13 days off. From here, you can make the most of your 13 day weekend travelling the world made easily accessible with Darwin's international airport or you can stay local and discover the rich culture and heritage of the Northern Territory, places like Kakadu, the Gulf of Carpentaria and Uluru. We believe in the Territory first and will even help move you here. On site you can join in the touch football comp, sweat it out in an afternoon PT session, enjoy a movie at the cinema, drive a ball on the golf range or join as a member of the clay target shooting club.

You'll learn more about the important part we continue to play in the Territorys resources industry and how we contribute to our local area, the NT and our nation.

You are a good fit with this role if:
  • You're familiar with GIS mapping and databases
  • You know your way around a spreadsheet and have experience in the Microsoft suite
  • You work well in a team but don't mind operating solo
  • Can communicate effectively in a fast paced and challenging environment
  • You're right at home in both the office and the great outdoors
  • Want to make a lasting contribution at MRM and the wider Glencore group
