Field Engineer I

Purpose: Position is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of product and applications trials with Field Technicians and Field Specialist to ensure project milestones and on-time delivery of tasks. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Provide on-the-job training for customer blasting personnel to ensure safe product use.

Core Accountabilities

Essential Functions:
  • Manage individual project related expenses (materials & travel).
  • Contribute to achieving budgeted customer profitability as measured by EBIT.
  • Management of all company assets to assist with achieving Company budgeted gross margin.
  • Ensure quality of service by minimizing losses related to blasting.
  • Conduct pre-blast surveys e.g. face profiles, borehole deviation measurements, blast geometry measurements, product sampling, safety audits, etc.
  • Conduct blast performance measurements, e.g. digital high-speed video, vibration monitoring, vibration modelling, velocity of detonation, dynamic pressure, SHA, etc.
  • Conduct post blast assessments, etc. fragmentation measurement, time studies, volumetric measurements, blast reporting & documentation.
  • Conduct time studies on personnel and equipment throughout an operation including: drill and blast operations, truck-shovel loading, dragline, dozer assist, crushing process, etc.
  • Respond professionally and timely to address problems and business requests.
  • Understand and enhance service requirements to continually improve customer profitability.
  • Communicate effectively with all Global DynoConsult engineers and personnel.
  • Support product management in key product application and technology initiatives
  • Comply with applicable regulatory health and safety policies and practices in order to ensure personal safety and the safety of all employees, company assets, environment and regulatory compliance.
  • Effectively use and promote the MHP (Managing Human Performance) process for goal setting, providing feedback, developing employees and assessing job performance.

Technical Competencies
  • Four-year degree in Geo-technical, Mineral, and/or Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering. Advanced Degree in Geo-technical, Civil Engineering, Computer Sciences, etc., or, equivalent time/experience in job with proven skills. Advanced degree beneficial.
  • Minimum 2 years working experience with progressively increasing professional responsibility with leading edge technology to achieve results.
  • Minimum 2 years in Project Management.
  • Experience in a blaster supervisory role preferred, or may be required
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure customer environment.

  • Must satisfy the requirements for a "Possessor of Explosives" as defined by the Bureau of Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
  • Acquire and maintain all appropriate licenses and certifications required by federal, state and county entities (e.g. blaster licenses and CDL's for commercial drivers with HAZMAT, Air Brakes and applicable endorsements).

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Work in an office environment and customer mine sites. While performing the duties on this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands figure or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk and hear. Long periods of computer and office machine use. Requires sitting, stooping and kneeling for filing, use of hands and fingers, ability to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk short distances and requires exposure to long travel distances either driving or flying. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to stand, squat, lift, and use hands with fine dexterity for wiring, blast initiation hook-up, instrumentation tie-in, etc. May require occasional lifting of 60 lbs (30 kg). Ability to physically travel and get in and out of trucks in remote locations and wear protective equipment where required. Ability to travel and work in underground mines and civil construction projects
