This position reports to the Mill Superintendent.

What you will do:
  • Champion safety within all areas of responsibility
  • Coordinate all concentrate production and Mill Maintenance activities in a safe and environmentally compliant manner so as to meet production plans and remain within budgeted costs
  • Coordinate and plans daily activities of multiple personnel engaged in processing phosphate ore into a concentrate product at the specified quality
  • Coordinate production and collaborates with Mill Maintenance to plan activities in such a way as to minimize production downtime and maximize concentrate production
  • Ensure that all safety policies and procedures are closely adhered to and initiates corrective action as needed
  • Maintain good housekeeping within area of responsibility
  • Ensure that any conditions that could pose a risk to the health and safety of employees are addressed in a timely manner
  • Identify employee training needs and works with Mill Flotation Engineer and Mill Superintendent to provide the needed training
  • Establish and maintain daily contact with the Flotation Engineer and Mill Superintendent in planning and achieving concentrate production targets
  • Foster daily contact with supervision from the Mine, Calciners, Mill Maintenance, Mine Services and Phos Acid, Safety, and Environmental Affairs as relevant in coordinating interdepartmental objectives
  • Maintain contact with personnel in Purchasing to continually keep materials needed
  • Possess considerable tact and diplomacy that is required in working effectively with a diverse group of people
  • Maintain frequent contact with consultants, OEM representatives and vendors as needed to remain current with the latest developments in technical or mechanical advances
  • Serve as a point-of-contact for visitors to the Mill area
  • Remain in constant contact with contractors when being used
  • Work 4 crews on rotating basis working in a mining environment in all kinds of weather and adhering to all state and federal regulations
  • Facilitate the collection of all hazardous wastes and ensuring that these are taken to appropriate storage area; that all spills are reported and handled in an environmentally-approved manner
  • Ensure that maintenance has been properly performed to ensure maximum operating time for maximum production
  • Ensure that all supervisors are up-to-date on all production changes that have taken place during their absence and communicates departmental priorities
  • Discern when maintenance work is required and how to approach the job; making recommendations on work that can be postponed in order to accommodate production requirements
  • Maximize mill recovery while staying within budgeted costs, and safety/environmental parameters
  • Strive for safety excellence; continuous reduction in citations, recordable incidents, lost time injuries, SIF prevention
  • Foster an environment to promote positive attitudes and morale of Mill employees
  • Oversee and following up to ensure that all direct reports are properly trained to carry out the responsibilities of their positions
  • Ensure that the Mill equipment is well-maintained, so as to accomplish the production goals with minimum downtime
  • Possess the willingness to accept, change, implement or attempt new methods in order to improve production, as well as cut costs while allowing production in a profitable manner

What you will bring:
  • Highschool diploma or higher and 10 years of practical, hands-on experience in a process environment (i.e., working with specialized mining/processing equipment, having broad knowledge of principles of Mineral processing unit operations)
  • BS Engineering Degree in Mining and Minerals, is preferred
  • Supervisory training courses and familiarity of basic computer software – i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Supervisory skills and leadership abilities are necessary; acquired knowledge must include Safety and Environmental requirements, plant policy and procedures, basic mechanical knowledge of mineral processing equipment, effective speaking and writing skills and ability to prioritize production and maintenance jobs
  • Working knowledge of factors that influence processing/mining costs
  • Ability to develop and implement production plans
  • Working knowledge of maintenance procedures for processing equipment
  • Ability to effectively motivate personnel under incumbent's direction
  • Knowledge and understanding of state and federal laws pertaining to mining in order to remain in compliance--needs to have learned through practical experience the intricacies of slurry transport, phosphate flotation and dewatering
