Newlands Open Cut Operation is a large open cut coal mine and CHPP producing both high quality coking coal and thermal coal for the export coal market. The mine is located in Queensland at the northern end of the Bowen Basin, 2 hour drive from Mackay and just under 3 hours from Airlie Beach.

Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, the focus of your role will be to ensure that all mine geology and geotechnical functions are carried out to a high standard, ensuring the safe and efficient achievement of mining production. You will be responsible for geotechnical hazard and high wall mapping, ensuring the geological model is maintained and all coal quality issues, including reconciliation of coal qualities and coal tonnages, are managed effectively. You will also provide geological support to the coal mining operations as well as support the drill and blast process through the creation of short-term geological models.

You will enjoy working with others and be driven to succeed. You will also demonstrate safety leadership and a passion for continuous improvement. You are tertiary qualified, proficient with geological modelling software and have experience in open cut mining.

The positions of Geologist is permanent fulltime, working an 8/6 dayshift only roster. Remuneration for this position includes a competitive base salary, roster allowance, 13% superannuation and a performance bonus paid annually.
