PURPOSE

Under supervision of the HR/Labor Relations Manager, this strategic position supports operational leadership and staff by performing the Human Resources Generalist role at with a significant focus in the areas of employment law compliance, performance management, employee relations, and training and development. In addition, this position will Serve as the Labor Relations (LR) point of contact for coordinating of union grievances/arbitrations, and labor relations issues.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Primary responsibilities include ensuring compliance with all employment policies, Company human resources and labor relations objectives, and state/federal employment laws. Partnering with leadership team on employee/labor relations opportunities and challenges conducting internal investigations as assigned by HR management.

- Serve as the Labor Relations (LR) point of contact for coordinating of union grievances/arbitrations, and labor relations issues.   

- Assist HR/LR Manager on matters of routine labor relations such as the interpretation and application of CBAs, coordinating of formal grievances including arbitration, resolution of union jurisdictional disputes on matters and issues that arrive between unions and management.

- Partners with all levels of operational leadership and staff as well as employees to communicate various HR objectives and procedures in compliance with company policy and employment law.

- Partners with all levels of operational leadership and staff on opportunities and challenges.

- Monitors and periodically audits employee files and federal and state postings in various locations

- Proactively provides consultation and coaching on employee/labor relations issues by assisting managers with the implementation of progressive discipline and performance development plans

- Drafts communications, investigative reports and collaborates with department/ division management, and legal counsel when needed.

- Assist with additional Human Resource functions:   Benefits administration, EEO compliance, leave administration.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education:

- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or equivalent experience

- Professional of Human Resources certification is a plus

Experience & Industry Expertise:

- Ten + years progressive Human Resources experience with relevant, hands on experience in the following areas: of process improvement performance management, compensation, employee relations, and training and development.  

- Knowledge of a union environment preferred

Specific Job Requirements:

- Successful completion of pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background investigation

- Valid Driver’s License

- Current on all company required safety and regulatory training

- Ability to preserve confidential and proprietary information and successfully avoid conflicts-of-interest

- Strong knowledge of Human Resource laws, regulations, practices and methodologies

- Ability to plan and manage projects

- Excellent judgment and decision-making

- Demonstrated ability to persuade and influence senior leaders across departments

- Strong communication skills: verbal, written, presentation, facilitation and listening

- Strong focus on customer satisfaction

- Ability to interpret, summarize and communicate complex reports, analysis and information to others in a way that is easily understood

- Ability to multi-task and complete projects accurately and completely within a given timeframe

- Solid understanding of Microsoft Office and HRIS programs.  

- Occasional overnight travel
