  • The incumbent will be responsible for the day to day management of a purchasing profile with focus on continuous improvement within purchasing.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and continuously review the Purchase Order System to ensure it is accurate, up to date and consistently meets the requirements of the business.
  • Timely and effective communication of forecasts and purchase orders to suppliers.
  • Continually review the overall ”value” offered by existing suppliers and ensure that the Company’s purchasing remains globally competitive.
  • Assist with regular re-negotiations of terms of business/service agreements and performance evaluation with suppliers taking corrective action as required.
  • Check and authorise designated invoices for stock, packaging and carriage items.
  • Management of Key Performance Indicators.
  • Any other reasonable duties which may be required by management from time to time.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • A certified Professional Purchaser Diploma/Degree designation or equivalent combination of post-secondary education and purchasing experience.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience of buying/procurement within a buying dept.
  • Experience in dealing with global suppliers. 
  • Knowledge of African markets is a must.
  • Good mining knowledge/experience is advantageous.

Key Competencies

  • Code 08 drivers licence mandatory.
  • High level of computer literacy, to include MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel
  • Ability to build and develop team approaches to problem solving where individual skills and abilities are pooled to address and resolve issues that individuals are unable to solve without specialized expertise and leadership.
  • Ability to construct thoughts in a logical and convincing fashion and express them in discussion.
  • Effective written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to handle high volumes of work with constantly changing priorities.

Problem solving requirements:

  • Analytical and reasoning skills allowing the incumbent to select and apply innovative techniques and methods, which together provide a logical interpretation of gathered data utilizing sophisticated analytical concepts and models and applies them within accepted practice.
  • Demonstrate motivation and determination in understanding the needs of others while ensuring that policy and procedures are also addressed.
