Senior Specialist – Earthworks

Reporting to the Manager, Mine Technical Services, and working a two (2) weeks on/two (2) weeks off rotation, the Senior Specialist, Earthworks, is responsible for providing expertise, knowledge and leadership relevant to the geotechnical engineering field. The incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to:
• Ensuring the stability of existing and proposed earthworks at the mine site;
• Ensuring that facility design, construction, commissioning, handover and monitoring of earthworks are completed in a safe and cost efficient manner;
• Developing and implementing operating, maintenance and surveillance plans for each dike, dam and pond at the mine site, in conjunction with the designer and constructor;
• Monitoring and supporting construction activities in accordance with prescribed designs, methods, safety standards, time lines, costs and quality requirements to ensure a successful project handover to mine operations; and
• Directly supervising three staff as well as various consultants as required.
The successful candidate will have a Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering Degree and be eligible for membership in NAPEGG (Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of the
Northwest Territories and
Nunavut). A minimum of seven (7) years of involvement with the design, construction and monitoring of rock dams and dikes, or other engineered works, is required. Ten (10) or more years of civil/geotechnical engineering experience in the design, construction and monitoring of water retention dams and dikes, rock dumps or other large earthwork structures, civil infrastructure and services is preferred. Hands-on experience in construction, monitoring instrumentation and/or technical field services is desirable. The candidate must have the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and work as a team player within a dynamic and continuously changing work environment.
