Production Manager

Our client based in Zambia is looking to place a Production Manager at one of their integrated opencast mines and processing facilities.

 

The Production Manager carries complete operational control of a large copper production operation, extracting and upgrading copper from a complex oxide / sulphide ore body, mined in an open cast operation.  Oxide, mixed and sulphide copper ores are treated through crushing and milling followed by froth flotation and for oxide ore, additionally via agitation leaching, solvent extraction and electro-winning. The successful candidate in this role will have:

  • A degree in Extractive Metallurgy / Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience of milling, flotation and leaching, SXIW, hydrometallurgical operations at senior levels.
  • Ability and desire to manage in a challenging social and business environment.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing and meeting operating budgets in line with corporate requirements and goals.  To do this, the incumbent will develop and ensure resources and capacity available to meet budget targets through:

  • Maximising value from the ore resource through optimal use of available treatment routes and capacity, as well as identification and implementation of new routes to match resource characteristics and economic conditions.
  • Interaction with mining planning, production and geology departments to optimise ore blend and delivery scheduling
  • Leading and providing technical input to process improvement projects
  • Working in partnership with engineering and project departments to maximise capacity and assure quality targets are met.
  • Monitoring through appropriately developed reporting systems plant performance and recommend, plan and implement future plant and equipment optimisation strategies.
  • Lead and motivate staff and plan their training to improve performance and ensure broad based skills development.
  • Ensure plant operates within legislated and agreed safety and environmental standards.
