The Ambatovy Project is a large-tonnage nickel and cobalt project located in Madagascar with annual production capacity estimated at 60,000 tonnes of nickel, 5,600 tonnes of cobalt and approximately 190,000 tonnes of ammonium sulphate; and an estimated Project life of 27 years.

An exciting opportunity exists within our
Madagascar operations for a Chief Mine Engineer, Ambatovy. As a rotational expatriate you will have the unique opportunity of being involved in the start up and production of one of the largest nickel and cobalt projects in the world.
Position Profile:
Reporting to the Mine Manager, you will be responsible for managing the Mine Engineering department at the Ambatovy mine, including;
- Supervising a staff of approximately 8, including engineers and surveyors.
- Working closely with the Mine Manager to schedule daily work, as well as with the Chief Geologist and the Ore Preparation Plant Manager.
- Training local national engineers and technical staff to ensure their success in the department.
The Mine Engineering department is responsible for:
- Short- and long-term production planning
- Open pit, haul road, and dump design
- Water control and pumping design
- Preparing and updating ore reserves in conjunction with Geology
- Design and maintenance of a truck dispatch system
- Mine production statistics, mine budgeting, and surveying
Qualifications:
Ideally you will have a degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline. You will also have experience in the planning of an open pit mine including the use of software for pit design and planning. Experience in cost control and budgeting at an open pit mine is also required. Prior experience working in a developing country, demonstrated ability to train local nationals and bilingualism (English/French) are strongly preferred. Effective communication skills are essential as you will interface with many internal and external stakeholders.
