During the construction phase, the incumbent will become a member of the Owner’s Team and be responsible for overall management of their respective department and ensure compliance with Skye and CGN’s environmental and community relations policies and practices, while providing a safe and healthy workplace. Upon start up of operations, the incumbent will become part of the Operations Team.
We are seeking individuals who possess strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as passion and commitment for their work. Good working knowledge of English and Spanish language skills are a must. Former South American experience and sensitivity to local conditions and customs are highly desirable.
To be based in Guatemala, the Mine Manager position will be a key member of Skye’s Project Team. The Mine Manager will be responsible for mine planning, budgeting, staffing, cost containment and profitability. They will lead all aspects of the mine site and industrial infrastructure development in support of project execution, cost control and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
· Schedule and manage contractors involved with mine development and preproduction activities, should such contractors be involved.
· Establish and manage mine development objectives to ensure they advance in an expeditious and cost effective manner.
· Issue recommendations on the selection of mine capital equipment.
· Plan and supervise the development and implementation of mining methods, mine schedules and optimization of reserves for plant feed.
· Maintain compliance with all company policies, operating procedures, environmental standards and required regulatory certifications.
· Lead the efforts to negotiate appropriate terms with mining contractors, should contract mining be considered.
· Work closely with Skye’s Construction Director to ensure objectives and targets remain on track.
· Work closely with the engineering and construction firms involved in Fenix to ensure expected outcomes.
· Contribute to cost benefit analysis of operational projects and capital expenditures.
· Develop a strong and capable mining team within the Fenix operation.
· Identify opportunities to improve and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
· Report frequently on the status of the engineering and subsequent construction of the mining facilities.
· Prepare for the transition from construction to operation.
· Seek continuous and lasting improvements for the development of Fenix through the maximization of current approaches as well as spearheading new initiatives.
Specifications:
University degree in Mining Engineering or a related engineering program. Ten or more years experience as a senior mining engineer during construction and operation of open pit mines. Experience in lateritic ore deposits would be a definite advantage.
