Position Summary:
We are seeking qualified Intermediate to Senior Engineering Geologists to work in the areas of dam engineering and mine tailings disposal, geological assessment and foundation design.
May act in either a Project Manager or Specialist Engineer capacity. Carries out responsible and varied assignments requiring a knowledge of both a broad field of geological assessments and of reciprocal effects of the work upon other fields. Problems usually resolved by use of a combination of standard procedures, modifications to standard procedures, or methods developed in previous assignments. Participates in planning to achieve prescribed objectives. Make independent studies, analyses, interpretations and conclusions.
Analyze problems, organize investigations and produce reports. Interprets and evaluates data obtained from various geological, engineering and/or research investigations and keeps well informed of the latest technological developments relating to specialty.
Develop, approve and coordinate work schedules to ensure that objectives of cost, quality and time are met. Develop and recommend improvements in design standards to lower costs and improve work quality.
Discuss projects with colleagues to determine relative priorities and implications of work of others. Make commitments on acceptance of projects, completion dates, resources and staff required to meet objectives. Required to have knowledge of related fields of engineering, and provide support on marketing programs.
Working conditions specific to the job
The nature of this work requires an employee who is able to work a flexible schedule that may include overtime as required to meet project deadlines. Travel to other offices, client meetings and project sites will be required from time to time. Travel may be domestic or international.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelors degree in related Geological/Geotechnical fields is required, a Masters degree is an asset.
- Experience in geological and geotechnical investigation programs, earthworks projects or environmental engineering is required.
- Relevant industry work experience.
- Large scale project management experience.
- Previous experience and knowledge in the Mining or Geotechnical sectors.
- Ability to undertake mapping and engineering geological assessments.
- A history of involvement on field programs, and a background of working on large-scale multi-disciplinary projects.
- Proficiency with engineering modeling programs, site investigations and characterization, mathematical analytical tool for engineering calculations (MathCAD), AutoCAD and drafting experience is an asset, report-writing and good oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent English skills (oral and written). Spanish an asset.
- Willing and able to travel both domestically and internationally
- Eligible to register as a professional in the country of residence
