Mine Maintenance Technologist

Taseko Mines Limited is a mining exploration, development and production company, located in Vancouver, BC, a part of the Hunter Dickinson group of Companies.  Taseko’s main assets are the Gibraltar copper-molydenum mine, the prosperity gold-copper project and the Harmony gold prospect.
 
GIBRALTAR MINE
 
The Gibraltar mine, re-started by Taseko Mines Limited in 2004, is an open pit copper/molybdenum mine located near the City of Williams Lake in the beautiful Cariboo region of British Columbia.  Gibraltar is currently undergoing a major, two-phase expansion and modernization of the concentrator, which was originally built in 1971. By the end of 2007, the first phase expansion was complete and the daily mill capacity increased to 46,000 tons per day, with the capability to produce 100 million pounds of copper and 1.3 million pounds of molybdenum annually. The second phase of the expansion, will allow a new SAG mill to process 55,000 tons per day by the end of 2008. Upon completion, Gibraltar's average annual production is expected be 120 million pounds of copper and 1.4 million pounds of molybdenum.

MINE MAINTENANCE TECHNOLOGIST
Nature & Scope of position
Mine Maintenance Technologist functioning alongside managers, supervisors and trades people will assist in improving the performance of the department with respect to health and safety, maintenance standards and productivity, environment and cost.


Selected Main Duties
The Mine Maintenance Technologist will perform the following duties, focused on analysis of maintenance needs, recommendations, design, supervision of project installations and cost control:
  • Conduct tests and analysis of mining equipment, components, and materials to determine their performance, strength, response to work conditions, and the practicality of the design and other characteristics.
  • Prepare engineering designs, drawings and specifications for machines and components, parts, heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems and other systems and processes.
  • Prepare cost and material estimates, project schedules and reports.
  • Inspect mechanical installations and construction.
  • Prepare contract and tender documents.
  • Supervise, monitor and inspect mechanical installations and construction projects
  • Prepare standards and schedules and supervise mechanical maintenance programs or operations of mining equipment
  • Develop guidelines, maintenance repair procedures and recommend spare parts inventory.
  • Assure records and documents of mine equipment, maintenance shop facilities, maintenance records, reports and bids are maintained and are current.
  • Initiate and participating in problem solving. Focusing on continually improving department efficiency and standards.
  • Assist with failure analysis and troubleshooting as required.
Qualifications
  • Previous related experience in an open pit mine and mining equipment maintenance would be a definite asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential as well as ability to handle multiple projects with minimal supervision.
  • Strong computer skills – Word Processing, Spreadsheets, AutoCAD.
  • Completion of a two-year or equivalent program for mechanical engineering technologist required.
