Purchasing Manager

Newmont Mining Corporation, one of the world's largest gold mining organizations, has an exciting position for a Purchasing Manager in our Ahafo location.
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Develop a purchasing strategy in conjunction with the Regional Supply Chain Manager to deliver a high level of service to end users using a total cost approach to Supply Chain Management.
  • Maintain a professional attitude in the relationships with all entities within the materials group, within the company and outside the company.
  • Continuous review and development of departmental policies, procedures and STP’s to ensure adherence and standardization of these within the workplace. Analyze and review processes for improvement and / or identification of outdated procedures and updated where appropriate.
  • Issue information throughout the company regarding contract progress, compliance and any deviations necessary.
  • Monitors contractual obligations for compliance and closes out contracts when work has been completed.
  • Provides information and reports on sensitive purchasing activities and progress on projects including any deviations from original contracts.
  • Manages the sale of surplus equipment.
  • Manages all phases of repair, rebuild and warranty claims; approves repair and service invoices; and devise plans to reduce operating cost.
  • Ensures that all Materials Management, Purchasing and Newmont Mining Corporation policies and procedures are followed
  • Maintains awareness of market trends, conditions and changing technology.
  • Assists end-users with yearly budget preparation.
  • Prepare contractual documents and obligations for recommendations to award long-term supply and operational contracts, including management of the Regional FPA program.
  • Conduct contractor meetings including pre-bid, pre-award, progress and performance reviews.
  • Provide regular management reports of objectives, accomplishments, progress, status and major activities relating to all purchasing and expediting activities.
  • Give work direction, resolve problems, prepare schedules and set deadlines to ensure timely completion of purchasing and importation of materials.
  • Coordinate activities of the purchasing department with other major user departments including mining and processing operations,  Accounts Payable and with Denver departments.
  • Review contractual documents for completeness and accuracy to achieve the best value.
  • Oversee records and files including ready “hands on” access to needed information.
  • Maintain open communication with suppliers, operations, maintenance, engineering, warehousing and other departments.
  • Ensure that materials, equipment and supplies are purchased from the open market at the best overall value and in a timely manner, including expediting emergency or rush orders as needed.
  • Visit supplier sites as required to assure optimal performance.
  • Handle invoice discrepancies with suppliers and the Accounts Payable group. .
  • Select, train and develop personnel to form an effective team and monitor individual staff development plans in line with NGGL people development program
  • Ensure the transfer of technology from expatriate to National employees and the promotion and support of National employee training and skill development.
  • Contributes to SCM Global Team assignments, including participation/facilitation of Category Council initiatives.
  • Any other tasks or duties as may be agreed with the Regional Supply Chain Manager
Qualifications include:
  • Degree in Materials Management, Business Administration or related field and/or internationally recognized Supply Chain qualification and a minimum of ten years of increasingly responsible purchasing/buyer/materials experience in a mining environment.
  • Must have a detailed knowledge and understanding of the Ellipse system at an operational level.
  • Must possess and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, analytical skills and pay close attention to details.
  • Must have a proven record of managing change in a developing country environment.
  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess and demonstrate high ethical and professional standards in all dealings.
  • Have a working knowledge of MS office programs
  • This person should have the personal qualities, experience, drive and motivation to be able to move up to a Supply Chain Manager’s position within 2 years.
