Description:
Rio Tinto is a leading international mining group headquartered in the UK, combining Rio Tinto plc, a London listed company, and Rio Tinto Limited, which is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange.  Rio Tinto's business is finding, mining, and processing mineral resources. Major products are aluminium, copper, diamonds, energy (coal and uranium), gold, industrial minerals (borax, titanium dioxide, salt, talc) and iron ore. Activities span the world but are strongly represented in Australia and North America with significant businesses in South America, Asia, Europe and southern Africa.
 
IOC is the largest manufacturer of iron ore pellets in Canada and its customer base covers North American, European and Asian steel producers.
 
The Company operates a mine, concentrator and a pelletizing plant in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as port facilities located in Sept-Îles (Quebec). It also operates a 418 kilometer railroad that links the mine to the port. IOC has approximately 1900 employees and its major shareholder and operator is the international mining group Rio Tinto, which has activities in more than 40 countries throughout the world.
 
Reporting to the General Manager of Primary Ore, the successful applicant will work closely with Mine Operations, Mine Maintenance, Major Projects, Business Evaluation and Procurement teams.
 
IOC is in an exciting period of growth which will see production increase by up to 50% over the next 5 years from the current 55MT/yr.  In addition to playing a key role supporting the management of mine equipment acquisitions, this individual is also responsible to provide analytical and negotiations support to existing equipment contracts. 
 
Responsibilities
 
Equipment acquisitions
  • Prepare capital justification for new equipment purchases and major components working with Operations & Maintenance teams.
  • Follow up with procurement to secure delivery slots & ex-factory dates
  • Track cash outlays for equipment purchases
  • Coordinate assembly of new assets with the Maintenance team & Union Executive
 
HME contracts administration
  • Implement systems to enable data capture, classification and reporting of equipment performance and maintenance cost information.
  • Complete regular availability and cost ceiling reconciliations for HME fleets.
  • Negotiate settlements with vendors
  • Compile periodic reports for internal supplier relationship management and benchmarking.
  • Train key operational staff (e.g. maintenance planners, team leaders, etc) to understand contractual benefits and implications necessary for their realization
 
Department capital management
  • Track timing of AFE submissions for entire department
  • Track cash outlays for capital purchases
 
Required Qualifications
  • Bookkeeping / Accounting / Business degree and/or Engineer – comfortable conducting analytical analysis Strong in both written and oral communication
 
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Heavy mobile equipment experience
  • Strong MS Excel skills
  • SAP experience
