Senior Security Specialist
Barrick is a leading international gold mining company, with a portfolio of 27 operating mines and seven advanced exploration and development projects, located across five continents.
Barrick Africa is the largest gold mining company in Tanzania with three operating gold mines, Bulyanhulu, North Mara and Tulawaka and the Buzwagi Project. Barrick Africa also includes joint venture partnerships in the Kabanga Nickel Project in Tanzania and the Sedibelo Platinum Project in South Africa.
Buzwagi Project in Tanzania is currently searching for an experienced Senior Security Specialist for the Security Department. Buzwagi is under construction and plant commissioning will start in early 2009. This position is required to provide leadership, plan, organize and control development and operation of the Buzwagi Security Department.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards that exceed worldwide industry practice and any applicable legislative requirements.
- Collaborate with the Mine and Process Departments, to ensure sustained development of a Safe and Healthy Work Environment on the Project Site and within the Communities of contact.
- Direct the activities of the Security Department, to assure cost effective and high quality initiatives are taken. Achievement of Zero Property Loss Incidents is considered as a Key Performance Indicator.
- Implement a Security Management capability that will ensure prevention of material loss.
- Ensure that any loss is investigated in a proactive manner, to ensure appropriate corrective actions are taken.
- Ensure that all security personnel are equipped, trained and qualified to respond to potential “breach of security” incidents in an appropriate manner.
- Implement the necessary programs and reporting functions that will facilitate timely reporting of costs, training schedules and commitment forecasts.
- Ensure all security personnel are trained in the application of Voluntary Principles (VPs) on Security and Human Rights.
- Develop and promote a Succession Plan that will define appropriate localization initiatives and ensure these commitments are met.
- Promote and implement the appropriate Policies and Procedures that are based on the submissions and commitments to the Tanzanian governing agencies and the best management practices that are part of our Barrick Operating System and corporate philosophy.
- Facilitate creation of a workplace climate that ensures minimum disruption to work due to industrial relations issues.
- Actively participate in appropriate industry committees, government working parties and community groups to ensure that Buzwagi interests are represented and protected.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
- Post secondary education diploma or degree.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years experience in the Military, Police, or as a Security Professional.
- Experience in Open Cut Mining would be a preference.
- Experience with security operations and project development in developing countries.
Skills:
- Knowledge of Tanzanian customs and legal process.
- Advanced skills in Security Operations, including:
