Project Engineer

Barrick Gold is a leading international gold mining company, with a portfolio of 27 operating mines and seven advanced exploration and development projects, located across five continents.  The Company holds a prominent position within the gold mining industry, with proforma gold mineral reserves of 139 million ounces and copper production of approximately 370 million pounds. Barrick shares are traded on the Toronto, New York and London stock exchanges.
 
Barrick Tanzania is part of Barrick Gold Corporation’s global operations.  Barrick Tanzania has the largest Gold Mine portfolio in Tanzania, with three operating gold mines namely Bulyanhulu, North Mara and Tulawaka.  It also has an advanced exploration nickel project, Kabanga Nickel and an advanced development gold project, Buzwagi Project.
 
 
Reporting Line: Engineering and Maintenance Manager
Work Schedule:  Rotational Status, (8 weeks on 4 weeks off)
 
The principle duties include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Design, detailing, cost estimation, scope, planning and scheduling for Project Activities.
  • Review and check engineering details, design, cost estimate for various projects.
  • Project management and overall coordination during execution of projects.
  • Coordinate with various project owners for execution of projects to meet owner’s objectives.
  • Provide supervision for mechanical, piping, civil, equipment installation and commissioning activities related to projects.
  • Coordinate with electrical and instrumentation team for project activities.
  • Establish and monitor safe working environment in line with Barrick policies at project site.
  • Provide guidance to supervisors, contractor team and site inspectors in execution of projects. Taking care of training and development needs for project team.
  • Conduct progress and safety meetings and inspections as per Barrick procedures.
  • Manage routine administrative work related to project team and contractors.
  • Floating enquiries and discussion with contractors, preparing comparative statements.
  • Manage contractors working for projects at site, coordinate on material and labour issues.
  • Provide guidance to supervisors and site inspectors in execution of projects.
  • Compile progress and cost reports, review progress and cost to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Develop system and procedures for safe and effective project execution.
  • Ensure effective communication of project planning and progress to project owner, management and project team
.
 
The successful applicants must have the following qualifications/skills:
 
  • Degree in Mechanical/Civil Engineering or Equivalent qualification (BE/ B.Tech)
  • Work experience with MS Project, Auto Cad, MS Office is essential.
  • Minimum 5 to 10 years of experience in Project / Construction Management with reputed Mining organization.
  • Experience in Africa or other developing counties will be an added advantage.
