Project Manager

The Talas project is a joint venture is between Gold Fields International Services Inc. (a subsidiary of Gold Fields Ltd.) and Orsu Metals Corp and is located in the Talas region of Kyrgyzstan.

Gold Fields Limited Group is one of the world’s largest unhedged producers of gold with attributable production of just under four million ounces per annum from eight operating mines in South Africa, Ghana and Australia. A ninth mine, the Cerro Corona Gold/Copper porphyry mine in Peru, is currently starting production. The company has total attributable ore reserves of 92 million ounces and mineral resources of 252 million ounces.

Gold Fields seeks to appoint a Project Manager who will manage the exploration effort in this exciting region of the Tien Shan belt in Kyrgyzstan with the prime objective of discovering copper-gold and gold deposits which exceed Gold Fields’ minimum economic criteria. Project focus will be on greenfields and brownfields exploration using specific expertise in porphyry Cu-Au geology. The position will be based in Bishkek and on site. The successful candidate will report to the Commercial Manager Exploration with link to the Chief Geologist of Orsu Metals Corp.

The Project Manager will need considerable experience in exploration project management and be conversant in Russian and English.

Qualification and Experience:

Minimum BSc Honours in Geology.
Have 10+ years relevant experience in international mineral exploration with an emphasis on porphyry Cu-Au
Good communication skills in English and Russian
Computer literacy and knowledge of geologic information systems

Key responsibilities:

Detailed technical responsibility for project development and provision of specialized geoscientific review, facilities and functions
Coordination of work programs and provide direction and advice on method, approach, and use of equipment and technology
Head the technical group on-site and ensure high quality and consistency of data capture, particularly for core logging
Make day-to-day decisions not usually subject to technical review, on courses of action necessary to expedite the successful accomplishment of assigned project objectives and make recommendations involving large sums of money or long-range objectives
Site drill holes on-the-fly resulting from immediately preceding holes
Compile Powerpoint summary slides for presentation at internal meetings
Supervise and exercise authority and technical control over a group of professionals and other staff
Ensure that the issues, costs and impacts of sustainable development challenges are evaluated and considered in all work such that Gold Fields’ commitment to sustainable development is not jeopardized or compromised
Comply with the Corporate Environmental, Ethics and Human Rights Policies
Implement the Group’s ISO 140001 and OHSAS 18001 codes of practice
