Senior Metallurgist
The Hemlo Operations BARRICK GOLD / TECK a joint venture company located near Marathon in Northwestern Ontario presently requires a:
Senior Metallurgist
As a member of the Mill Department, reporting to the Mill Superintendent, the successful candidate will lead the Metallurgical Group and the Assay Lab.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring that all employees work safely and in accordance with applicable legislation, company policy, standards and procedures
- Budgeting and cost control for the Metallurgical Group and Assay Lab
- Monitoring plant performance, identifying sources of variability and making recommendations for improvement
- Conceiving and coordinating investigations, test work and technical projects to maintain performance or to identify opportunities to exceed targets
- Developing and maintaining quality control programs within the plant and onsite laboratories
- Developing technical staff through coaching, training and performance review
The candidate must be able to contribute positively within a team of professional and technical people in a changing, creative, and energetic work environment related to the ongoing development and production of this 8,000 tpd underground and open pit gold mining operation.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Graduate Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineer with 5-7 yrs of operating experience, including comminution and gold extraction
- Demonstrated ability to work safely
- Proven leadership and interpersonal skills
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Office software.
- Strong communication, organizational and team building skills
- Integrity, focus and a good work ethic
- Proven ability to analyze problems, prioritize issues, and develop timely and cost-effective solutions
