Reporting to the Director, Mine Operations Millennium, the Supintendent of Oilsands would be responsible for Safe and efficient production of quality oilsand feed to extraction as per the Mine Plan. The Millennium Mine, a world-class operation, operates approximately 200 ultra-class haul units to move approximately 430 million tonnes of material a year. Suncor continues to develop its North Steepbank Mine and targets pre-stripping operations to commence in 2010, and ore delivery to commence in 2012. Suncor also continues to evaluate a number of growth opportunities for mine operations in the Wood Buffalo region.
 
Key Accountabilities:
  • Safety in the geographic area of the shovel pits
  • Achieve Budgeted Production of oilsands
  • Oilsands shovel productivity and truck load factor
  • Minimizing equipment damage and incidents within geographic battery limits
  • Improvements in the delivery of oilsands to extraction. (Drive To Design Initiatives) in coordination with mining managerial colleagues and extraction counterparts
  • Autonomous improvements within area of accountability
  • Work together as a collaborative member of the Millennium Operations Area team
  • Accountable for the performance management and development of 120 - 150 Equipment Operators and 8 Supervisors
  • Cost center management
  • Overall accountability for the approval of mine plans (including contract mining and road layouts) and designs prior to execution in order to take full account of mining outputs. Ensure early input such that plans are cost effective and operationally viable
 
Qualification Requirements:
  • A recognized Mining, Mechanical or Civil Engineering degree is desirable but not required.
  • Minimum grade 12 or GED
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to work and be a key contributor in a dynamic team environment
  • Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft office
  • Good task management and reporting skills
  • Must have a valid drivers license
  • A minimum of 5 years in a mining engineer role coupled with 2 years of supervisory experience
  • A good working knowledge of OH&S regulations and an understanding of Loss Management techniques
  • A knowledge of Modular Mining is a not necessary but is viewed as an asset
