Environmental Scientist

PRIMARY FUNCTION
This position reports to the Environmental Operations Manager. This position is responsible for scientific issues related to environmental (soil and groundwater) remediation. Areas of specialty include geology, hydrogeology, chemistry and biology. The position requires a strong self starting scientist who would like to be involved with diverse environmental projects from investigation through closure.

TYPICAL DUTIES (including but not limited to)

Collect and interpret field data, reviewing earth science data, determine and ensure contaminant and toxicity levels, and provide field consultations as required.
Evaluate and determine remedial strategies and technologies and present recommendations to clients and regulators.
Lead the preparation of Project Work Plans, Health and Safety Plans, Field Reports, and Final Project Reports. Strong writing skills are desired.
Some travel will be required.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The Environmental Scientist shall have an undergraduate degree in a related scientific discipline and at least 2 years experience. The Environmental Scientist shall have completed the OSHA 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response training and a current 8-hour refresher.

The successful candidate must be adept at explaining technical aspects of field work to internal and external clients verbally and in writing. The successful candidate must be highly organized and able to manage multiple assignments with competing deadlines. The successful candidate must have the ability to generate legally defensible documentation for field work. Experience with federal clients and working with federal, state and local regulators is desirable. The ideal candidate will have experience producing high quality environmental documents and observing and evaluating field remediation activities.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required for this position. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the knack to maintain pleasant working relationships, perform multiple tasks simultaneously and uphold the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism. Strong time management skills and task prioritization skills are essential to ensure that administrative support is timely and short turn around times are met for multiple projects.

The Environmental Scientist must be proficient in Microsoft word, excel, and outlook. Proficiency in other programs such as Microsoft Project, GIS, Surfer, SESOIL, AutoCAD, databases, and environmental modeling programs is desirable.
