Machine Shop Supervisor

Requirements:
This position requires an Associate’s Degree in Business, Engineering or Industrial Engineering or related field with 3 to 5 years experience. Position also requires a background in the capital equipment industry, machine shop experience, strong interpersonal skills, and training in supervision and management of a machine operations or equivalent skills. Experience in SAP or other enterprise resource planning software is a plus along with application of a wide range of process improvement tools to identify and eliminate waste. This position reports to the Manufacturing Manager of the Chain Plant Operations and will be an internal expert with the full range of Lean Manufacturing tools to champion implementation/sustainability of Operational Excellence on site.

Predominant tasks:

Complete shop orders to scheduled due dates 95% on time.
Schedule the workload for machine tools. This requires in-depth understanding of the manufacturing process (e.g., alternate work centers or routings to efficiently accomplish the end product).
Hold “Job Talks” to effectively communicate shared information with all employees, providing leadership and direction
Maintain positive relationships with other Joy departments and facilities so that energies are pooled to meet mutual objectives.
Support the implementation of process control and quality assurance by ensuring prescribed methods are followed or by investigating and implementing new or improved methods.
Attain departmental goal of cost improvements each year.
Obtain training as required and desirable to assure continued high standards of performance and to prepare for desired achievement.
Ensure that all Safety rules are followed and promptly report and investigate all accidents or near misses.
Solve inherent day-to-day and long-range problems concerned with machining processes.
Interview and select candidates for employment in the machine shop and supervise the orientation and training of new employees and evaluate their progress.
Provide counseling, training, and performance appraisals to assure the highest level of competent performance from employees.
