Environmental Officer
Role Purpose:
The purpose of this role includes but is not limited to the following:
· Undertaking [Employer] environmental monitoring and compliance program
· Liaising with PRCL staff, community and other stakeholders on environmental matters and [Employer] responsibilities.
· Managing environment-related projects (from time to time).
· Promoting environmental awareness among PRCL staff, contractors and stakeholders.
Qualifications required to perform the role:
· Degree in Environmental Science or a related field,or
· Relevant qualifications and/or experience that would provide competency to undertake this role.
It is essential that the successful candidate have at least one of these.
· Experience Required to Perform the role: (may include experiences that would help the employee to perform the role)
· Experience in environmental monitoring and compliance is preferred
Special Requirements for the Role: (may include regulatory requirements, certification, specific attributes, willingness to work in a particular manner etc.)
· May be required to visit the underground operations on occasion.
· Need to be able and willing to work in an outdoor environment.
· Willingness to fly in to a remote location (usually by helicopter)
· May require some flexibility in working hours to accommodate specified sampling times and call-out roster.
Role Description
What do you do?
The primary function of this role is to implement the requirements of [Mine] environmental monitoring and compliance program. The role will also provide support to the Environmental Manager and the [Mine] team in implementing its environmental policy and achieving its strategic direction.
How do you do it?
The work will, largely, be carried out in the field although there will be a requirement for office-based time to enable consolidation of field work. It will involve the collection and collation of samples and reporting on the data required to monitor and report against environmental compliance standards. On occasions, this will require the preparation of reports for [Mine] management, staff, and stakeholders.
The role holder will also be required to undertake environment-related project work.
On occasion, the role holder will act as liaison between the organisation and other interest groups, such as regulators, community, staff, contractors and other stakeholders. This will require clear communication in an appropriate format and may involve the preparation and presentation of training or information sessions – including related documentation and written reports. Some of these sessions will be for the purpose of promoting environmental awareness and some will involve reporting and sharing information with others.
Why does this role exist?
This role exists to help [Mine] to implement its policies, to ensure compliance with resource consents and to assist the Environmental Manager and [Mine] staff in promoting environmental awareness at the mine.
Functions that will be performed in this role include:
· implementing [Mine] environmental monitoring program in accordance with consent and/or company requirements, including sample collection, analyses, interpretation of results, reporting, recommending changes and actions;
· reporting on compliance with RMA, HASNO, Dangerous Goods Act and Regulations and other relevant environmental legislation;
· preparing applications for resource consents, consent variations and other agreements;
· participating in community liaison meetings – e.g. neighbourhood meetings, IWI meetings;
· responding to environmental non-compliance/incidents;
· assisting in preparation of submissions on council plans, regulations etc.;
· undertaking research on trials related to reducing environmental impacts;
· preparing capital applications / improvement proposals;
· providing staff training and sharing information with PRCL staff;
· liaising with regulatory authorities;
· close-out of environmental non-compliance and audit findings;
· maintaining a site consent register;
· providing regular reports (including written reports) to the Environmental Manager.
· Coordinating contractors carrying out pest and predator control.
