Mechanical Technician

Reports To:
Initially, to the Mine Services Coordinator, and later to the Shift Coordinator

Location:
The full-time location for this role will be at the [Mine] mine site, [Location] .

Role Purpose:
·         Carrying out regular preventative and breakdown maintenance
·         Providing technical support to the Engineering team and to the broader PRCL team.
·         Planning & executing plant maintenance in conjunction with the shift coordinator
·         Completing risk assessments for maintenance activities
·         Work in conjunction with the Mine Services Coordinator on maintenance and mechanical issues in and around the mine

Qualifications required to carry out the role:
A Mechanical / Engineering Trade Qualifications (Fitter/Mechanic)is essential.

Experiences required to carry out the role:
·         Extensive experience as a fitter/mechanic is essential
·         Leadership of a small team of tradespeople is desirable

Special Requirements for the Role:
·         Position will report to the Shift Coordinator but will also work in conjunction with the Mine Services Coordinator.
·         Position and salary will be based upon a 7-day rotating roster. Initially, the position will be Monday to Friday, working for the Mine Services Coordinator
·         Most of the work will be carried out in underground working conditions.

Role Description:
[Employer] is a new underground mining development, currently in a start-up phase and due to become operational by mid 2008. The mine has an expected workforce of approximately 140 people.

The role of Mechanical Technician exists within the Engineering team. Initially, the incumbent will report to the Mine Services Coordinator, but as the mine moves into operational phase and more staff join the [Mine] team, it will report to the Shift Coordinator, with an “indirect” reporting line to the Mine Services Coordinator.

The role is concerned with the provision of installation, maintenance and repairs to the mine’s mechanical equipment. This includes the following:
·         Installation of new equipment
·         Carrying out regular preventative and breakdown maintenance
·         Dismantling, repairing, replacing, assembling and fitting engineering components.
·         Providing technical support to the Engineering team and to the broader PRCL team.
·         Planning & executing plant maintenance in conjunction with the shift coordinator
·         Completing risk assessments for maintenance activities
·         Working with and, where necessary, providing leadership to the mechanical technicians on shift
·         Work in conjunction with the Mine Services Coordinator on maintenance and mechanical issues in and around the mine
·         Ensure maintenance activities are completed with minimal impact on plant availability
