Senior Design Technical Lead: Structural Engineer

[Company] has an immediate opening in its Design-Build Management Department for a Senior Design Technical Lead: Structural Engineer. Responsibilities include:
- The Senior Design Technical Lead: Structural Engineer position is responsible for managing engineering assignments in support of Kiewit’s Design-Build Management Department for projects in North America.
- Bid phase development of innovative and cost-effective design, both through their own expertise and by challenging our subcontract designers.
- Bid phase identification of key design risks and development of plans to address the risks before they become an issue.
- The Senior Design Technical Lead: Structural Engineer will work on an interdisciplinary team including civil and structural engineers, estimators, schedulers, and construction experts to provide advice on construction methodology, risk, the design of permanent and temporary works, and in selecting and managing outside consultants.
- Project execution phase implementation of design risk management plans.
- Project execution phase guidance of subcontract designers to meet or beat estimate budgets for permanent materials.
- Provide design oversight support during the bid and contract phase.
- Capture and spread design lessons learned knowledge to all Districts.
- Develop and spread design innovation knowledge to all Districts.
- Spot check design calculations and quantity estimates prepared by design subcontractors.
- Work with design subcontractors to ensure the most cost effective design is developed.
- Identify design risks and assist with risk mitigation planning.
- Ability to work with and train new engineers.
- Provide input to design subcontractors that are producing engineering reports and detailed calculation packages for design-build projects in North America.
The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications:
- Qualified structural candidates will have design experience in bridges, retaining walls and other structures.
- A proven track record as a Design Manager or Discipline Lead on a major design-build project.
- The ideal candidate will have significant knowledge about design criteria for transportation and/or water project to develop innovative design and construction concepts.
- A highly qualified candidate will be known regionally or nationally as a contractor’s designer instead of an owner’s designer.
- Must have the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- The successful individual will be a self-starter, a team player, and have a “must win” attitude.
- Frequent travel to construction sites and satellite offices will be required.
- Willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Geotechnical.
- Registered Professional Engineer required.
- A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible civil, geotechnical, or structures design experience on bid and contract phases of transportation and/or water design-build projects.
