Job Duties
As a member of the Safety & Health Services team, supports the ZERO incident goal and Safety Corporate Objective. Apply knowledge of Graniterock Safety Practices and Policies, CalOSHA, MSHA, DOT and Motor Vehicle Code regulations and experience in supporting safety improvement efforts. Assist managers, supervisors and safety committees with incident investigations, reviews and follow-up. Work with Safety Committees to ensure all safety committee areas of responsibility are met and encourage continuous safety improvement. Develop and distribute incident statistics monthly for areas of responsibility. Conduct air and noise monitoring on job sites. Review and evaluate site specific Safety & Health plans and conduct site visits to promote plan compliance and overall safety. Work proactively to address safety issues in the field through immediate communication with supervisors/managers. Support the development and achievement of continuous safety improvement through the Annual Improvement Plan -Safety. Assist with development and implementation of new and revised safety programs including training. Attend pre-bid and pre-construction meetings as necessary to assess safety risks and advise best safe practices to be used. Conduct and coordinate training on relevant safety topics. Supports Safety & Health Services Baseline Goal achievements and the Corporate Objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Skills:
Working knowledge of CalOSHA and MSHA regulations. Strong knowledge of traffic control, work zone safety, fall protection, heat-related illness, trenching and excavation, lockout/tagout, confined space entry, hazardous waste operations, hazard communications, respiratory protection, ergonomics and fall protection safe work practices. Experienced in developing and conducting safety training. Ability and experience to conduct documented comprehensive safety audits. Prior experience developing JSAs. Ability to conduct air and noise monitoring. Possess strong analytical and problem solving skills. Work effectively with Graniterock People in all job responsibilities, and with external agencies. Knowledgeable in construction and mining equipment operation, commercial vehicle operation and laborer work. Establishes goals and priorities to complete multiple tasks. Intermediate proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and Outlook.
Experience: 5-10 years of experience in construction (earthwork, underground, paving, traffic control, concrete flat work and transporting equipment) and surface mining. 2-5 years of safety management experience.

Desired Qualifications

Education:

B.S. Engineering or Occupational Safety or related area.
Professional safety certification.
40 hour HAZWOPER certified.
30 hour OSHA construction certificate.
Skills: Class A Commercial License.
Working knowledge of DOT regulations and California Vehicle Code.
Fluent (written and oral) in Spanish.
CPR/First Aid certified.
Advanced proficiency in MS Office.

Experience:

10 or more years experience in construction (earthwork, underground, paving, traffic control, concrete flat work and transporting equipment) and surface mining. 5-10 years experience in safety management.
1-2 years managerial experience.
