Production Supervisor

Our Brampton client is a world-class global leader providing processing services and more within an industrial, health & safety conscious manufacturing type of plant. This is a very well established organization that recognizes the benefit of implementing change to remain competitive within the global market.

The plant in this very well established company is unionized and we are looking for a Production Supervisor with 3-5 years of experience within that environment.

You will be responsible for compliance with both collective agreements & policies & procedures. Rotating shift work is involved.

Education: Degree in Chemistry is preferred
Type: Permanent Full Time
Salary Range: $50-60K plus bonus, above average benefits & pension,
Reports to: Production Manager
Direct Reports: 5-8 Operators

Candidate Requirements:

Minimum of 3-5 years experience as a Production Supervisor
Experienced in leading a production team in a unionized environment
Must have relevant manufacturing experience
Effective communication skills to lead, motivate, coach, mentor, and resolve employee conflict
Ability to foster team environment focused on production goals and company priorities
Proficient knowledge of occupational health and safety act and employment standards act
Strong self-starter, persuasive and able to lead and follow-through with a willingness to embrace change
Ability to work 3 shift rotation

Preferences:

Degree/certificate in Life Sciences is a must, Chemistry is preferred
Previous experience in mining or metals industry
Familiarity in ISO14001, ISO 9001, lean manufacturing, continuous improvement & 5S principles

Job Description:

Ensures compliance of direct employees with the collective agreement and all Policies and Procedures
Reviews processes, supply and energy usage to examine ways to reduce inputs and increase the sustainability of the operating department
Ensures compliance of operating department personnel with all applicable legislation relating to Health and Safety, and the Environment
Ensures all preventative maintenance work is completed
Oversees daily production priorities
Operates the department within budgeted labour, supply, repair and maintenance costs
Reviews and approves the daily timesheets
Monitors supply levels and places orders as required
Maintains stocks of personnel protective equipment and places orders as required
Arranges with the Maintenance Supervisor necessary maintenance of plant, equipment, and chemical delivery systems
Ensures all materials are properly labelled with appropriate workplace labels on containers, pipelines and vessels
Liaises with the Melting Supervisor to ensure adequate feedstocks and melting of reverts and other materials
Liaises with the Sweeps Supervisor to ensure effluent capacity
Liaises with the Metal Control Department to acquire necessary feedstocks and to deliver materials for evaluation by Melting and Sweeps
Maintains a cross-trained work force in the department and all training records
Ensures participation of the department in the 5S program, maintaining housekeeping and orderliness of the department.
