Safety Coordinator

 
Our client is a global drilling services company providing a full array of drilling services to clients in the mining, exploration, and geotechnical industries in North America and Asia Pacific.  The company provides surface and underground diamond drilling, and underground Reverse Circulation drilling. The company builds most of its drill rigs and therefore can respond quickly to customer requirements.
 
There are field offices in Elko, Nevada and Perth, Australia; long term drilling contracts are in place with a number of the largest multinational mining companies in the world. An aggressive growth plan is in place to take advantage of many niche opportunities going forward. If you are an individual who can communicate effectively at all levels of an organization, but especially implements practical safety initiatives at the site level this is the opportunity for you. Significant upward opportunity available based on initiative and accomplishments. A few key responsibilities are as follows:
  • Build support and buy-in for safety initiatives.  Influence individuals at site to alter behavior to create change and a safety culture throughout operations.
  • Develop new and improve existing programs to inspect work areas, work methods and equipment to ensure compliance with federal, state and company regulations.
  • Ensure the safety and health of all employees and contractors through the implementation and support of safety and training programs.
  • Implement a functional supervisory skills training program for front line supervisors and lead-persons.
  • Participate in the development and execution of MSHA and OSHA training programs for appropriate personnel; ensure compliance with MSHA and OSHA standards, and assure that standards and regulations are communicated throughout the organization.
  • Proactively assist operating supervisors in identifying safety training needs in their respective organizations.
 
Successful candidate should have a bachelor’s in Safety, Environmental, Health or equivalent, with a minimum of 10 years direct experience in mining, manufacturing or some other type of blue-collar industry. Underground experience would be a plus, but not necessary. Excellent communication skills are a must.
