Description:
·         Biometallurgical Division
·         Control, Supervise And Communicate With Clients For Projects Under The Gfl Mining Services Ltd Biox® Technology And The Geobiotics Llc, Geocoat® Technology.

Summary of major responsibilities:
BIOX® testwork includes the following:
·         Batch bacterial oxidation testing of refractory gold ores and concentrates
·         Bacterial oxidation testing of refractory gold concentrates in a continuous pilot plant for the design of commercial BIOX® plants,
·         Neutralisation of BIOX® liquors for safe disposal on tailings dams,
·         Liquid/solid separation of BIOX® products,
·         Laboratory scale cyanidation leaching and optimisation of biooxidised products for gold recovery,.

GEOCOAT® testwork includes the following:
·         Tests simulating the GEOCOAT® bacterial heap leach technology in 150 mm by 6 m high and 1m diameter by 6 m high temperature controlled columns using a range of temperature specific bacteria i.e. ~ 40 oC, 48 - 55 oC and 68 - 80 oC.
·         The GEOCOAT® tests include studies on refractory gold and base metal (Cu, Ni & Zn) concentrates.
·         The GEOCOAT® test also include batch amenability testing of refractory gold and base metal concentrates and the downstream treatment of the products.
·         Responsible for work routing, formulating changes, improving work flow and maximum utilization of resources in the departments.
·         Responsible for effective and appropriate use of equipment and facilities.
·         Responsible for development, effective utilization and supervision of human resources within the department, including training, recruitment and discipline.
·         Keep abreast of new trends, current developments.
·         Responsible for results evaluation and trouble shooting.
·         Responsible for monitoring of consumable levels and expenses in conjunction with division manager
·         Client liaison and report preparation and communication to the clients
·         Health & safety for the division

Key performance indicators:
·         Work is scheduled and carried out in a timorous manner.
·         Supervision of staff, and allocation of tasks.
·         Clients are kept informed on work progress.
·         Other related functions as specified in detailed Job Description.

Qualifications:
·         Diploma or degree in Metallurgy, Bio-Chemistry/Microbiology.

Experience/Exposure required:
·         5 - 10 years experience in bacterial leaching process.
·         Commissioning of bacterial leaching pilot scale test programmes requiring technical and mechanical skills.
·         Management and supervision, as well as ability to provide training.
