· The Rock Engineer is accountable for the implementation and coordination of rock engineering interventions and processes as well as the application of systems and processes aligned to best practices to optimise safe extraction through advice and support.
Minimum Requirements:
· At least 3 years experience within a metalliferous mining environment, of which 1 year should have been in a supervisory role
· Chamber of Mines’ Rock Mechanics Certificate
· 2-4 Years rel experience
· Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office & SAP)
· Application of Automated systems and Technologies (Stope-CAD, Numerical Modelling Packages)
· Practical knowledge within the mining industry

Job Specification:
· Ensure effective Rock Engineering service delivery and support to Mining and Mining Engineering
· Ensure adherence to organisational best practice and legislative requirements

· Ensure successful teamwork and supervision of Rock Engineering resources Continuous improvement of the Rock Engineering function
Job Requirements:
· Effectively monitor and control rock engineering activities
· Determine stakeholder needs and expectations with regard to rock engineering service and support requirements
· Ensure that rock engineering service and support requirements are mapped against operational and project needs
· Plan, prioritise and coordinate Rock Engineering monitoring tasks and activities
· Ensure a thorough understanding of the service requirements related to operational strata control processes
· Coordinate Rock Engineering monitoring team members, equipment and task information
· Effectively supervise the strata control process by providing guidance and direction § Develop quality controls to ensure alignment of operational rock engineering interventions, systems and processes with standardisation requirements as well as policies, procedures and operating standards
· Monitor and review the effectiveness of operational rock engineering interventions, systems and processes to ensure service delivery and support aligned with stakeholder requirements
· Analyse and interpret rock engineering data and information to identify changes in the production environment, defects and safety risks Ensure effective service delivery and support to ensure a productive mining environment
· Observe and record geology, rock mass conditions, mining practices and current support system (quality and performance)
· Review rock engineering data and information to ensure the accuracy and integrity thereof
· Ensure that Rock Engineering service delivery and support meet the requirements of stakeholders
· Conduct regular inspections and ensure problems are addressed proactively and aligned with Rock Engineering requirements § Analyse and interpret data and information to identify production compromising conditions, defects and improvement opportunities
· Compile reports detailing the impact of compromising conditions and defects, and recommend alternatives to increase the productivity of the mining environment
· Liaise with Mining personnel to assist with pro-active or re-active measures related to short-term layouts, implementation, auditing and planning
· Support the overall management of the Rock Engineering Department
· Ensure that operating standards, policies and procedures are appropriate and clearly understood.
· Guide and develop practices in line with strata control practices, principles, standardisation requirements and operating standards
· Ensure that all activities are performed in line with the Mine Health and Safety Act, and Minerals Act
· Provide coaching and advice to operational stakeholders related to strata control services and support aligned to best practices
· Provide input into the development of safety standards, processes, policies and procedures
· Review working plans and update Rock Engineering level of caution
· Monitor and follow-up on safety measures implemented
· Schedule and conduct support product rail meetings, ensure the installation of trail support products and report findings
· Provide services and support related to underground fall of ground accident and incident investigations
· Review rock related incident information, interpret and compare recorded data with benchmark § Report on incident investigations to Manager Rock Engineering
· Implement safety awareness through continuous on-the-job safety training
· Compile reports presenting observation and measurement data, defining problem areas and detailing the impact of identified risks
· Determine if SAMRASS form needs to be submitted, complete and forward for final sign-off
· Extract and review overall Rock Engineering information and compile a monthly Rock Engineering Report
· Build effective relationships through mutual respect and two way communication
· Engage in regular interaction with stakeholders
· Provide coaching and advice to operational stakeholders related to rock engineering services and support aligned to best practices
· Ensure the availability of Rock Engineering data and information to relevant stakeholders
· Resolve and or escalate operational rock engineering related queries or breakdowns declared § Ensure that employees have clear work expectations and schedules to work according to
· Guide personnel in standards for safety and performance
