Group Technical Director

Our client is a well established company specializing in the mining and mineral processing industry, initially specializing in the design, manufacture and supply of horizontal vacuum belt filters - additionally, they offer a wide range of solid/liquid separation and mineral processing applications.  They are at the forefront of providing fully integrated design, engineering, manufacturing and commissioning services.
An opportunity is available for a: Group Technical Director
 
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
  • Build technical resources, skills, know-how in the company to meet future market demands and exploit new applications and processes.
  • Disseminate global knowledge efficiently to support the strategic objectives and targets of the company and subdivisions
  • Manage the technical competencies in order to maintain quality standards to achieve business objectives.
  • Strategically manage, market, develop an excellent process capability and reputation
  • Ensure technology agreement/patents are safeguarded
  • Ensure key in-house knowledge is collected, indexed and filed in hard copy and electronic format. 
  • To foster a company structure that promotes investigation, development and application of new ideas and technologies to the company's existing product range
  • Build contacts/relationships within the company and their clients worldwide
  • To acquire and apply new technologies to optimise existing product knowledge and development.
  • Build contacts/relationships with technology providers worldwide and visit research institutions regularly
  • Assist in defining and achieving the strategic direction of the company
  • Participate in strategic planning forums
  • Facilitate, emphasise the mission, vision, values, priorities for optimal org performance and client service
  • Contribute and guide the preparation of common Technical Descriptions and Data Sheets applied to the company's Bids to clients
  • Set up and communicate policies, philosophies, procedures and standards that the CoEx Managers should adopt and create and apply appropriate controls in all cases.
  • Design and Construct systems that allow business units to rapidly and accurately define equipment selection, design parameters, manufacturing costs and technical specifications for construction
 
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Strategically manage, market, develop an excellent process capability and reputation
  • To build client/industry relationships
  • Encourage staff to prepare/present technical papers to industry on an ongoing basis.
  • Participate in marketing efforts such as advertising, sponsorship and other events focused on emphasizing the company's technical position in the market. Eg at Technical Seminars
  • To develop and integrate global after-market technical service procedures and systems to ensure client expectations are met, and knowledge is retained/returned, including but not limited to:
  • Mechanical erection procedures and practices
    • On-site rectification practices
    • Mechanical completion and approval
    • Commissioning standards and practices, and procedures
    • Commissioning sign-off
    • Training of staff in above, and commercial aspect thereof.
    • Integration and feed back to the COEx and Operation divisions.
 
Though the position is based in Vancouver, there will be extensive travel throughout the world.  The successful candidate will have an engineering degree and will have significant experience within the equipment industry.
