Operations Supervisor
Position Description
- Responsible for the operation of pipeline, compressor and related field operations.
- The field consists of districts 167 Lovington NM, which includes three (3) Cooper 6V250 engine/compressor units and associated equipment. Compressor station 139; one (1) Solar Centaur compressor and associated equipment and 386 miles of pipeline ranging from 3" to 30". District 168 Sudan, TX, which includes two (2) Worthington ML-14 engine/compressor units and associated equipment and 104 miles of 24” and 30” pipeline. District 169 Hereford, TX which includes 92 miles of 24" pipeline.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and technical guidance to compressor and pipeline personnel.
- Management of multiple locations.
- Responsible for the creation, planning, forecasting and managing of the districts Capital and O&M budgets.
- Responsible for cash flow management, cost monitoring and control.
- Assist with AFE project preparation, scheduling, monitoring project costs and project completion.
- Responsible for the district’s safety, asset reliability and cost effective operation.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulations and Kinder Morgan Policies and Procedures.
- Participate in the selection/promotion of staff, salary change considerations and disciplinary matters.
- Conduct performance evaluations and resolve grievances.
- Coordinate safety and training programs to maintain a highly effective workforce.
- Orientate new employees as to procedures, policies, location and operation of equipment.
- Develop short and long-range plans, goals and objectives for compressor and pipeline operations.
- Provide support to project management and business development.
- Organize work for timely completion and be available for overtime work when required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory responsibility:
- Supervise nine (9) operations specialist and one (1) technician who operate and maintain the district facilities.
- Supervise functions related to outside contractors operating on company property or in company right-of-way areas in order to protect company interests.
- Supervise operations to achieve goals within budgeted funds and available personnel; plan and organize workloads and staff assignments, review progress, direct change in priorities and schedules as needed to assure work is completed in an efficient and timely manner.
- Minimum Requirements:
- Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
- A two or four year college degree preferred
- Certifications, licenses, registrations:
- Possess a valid driver's license and meet company insurability requirements
- May be required to possess a commercial driver’s license, drive a company commercial vehicle and comply with all commercial vehicle regulations.
Experience / specific knowledge:
- A minimum of 5 years of well-rounded experience in compressor and pipeline operations, mechanical maintenance, legal and environmental requirements affecting pipeline operations.
- Capable of managing multiple assignments with various deadlines concurrently.
- Effective use of time management skills is of key importance in order to properly identify priorities and ensure that all job requirements are satisfied.
Competencies, skills, and abilities:
- Strong communications and presentation skills.
- Ability to plan, organize, document, prioritize and complete work efficiently.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage crews at multiple locations and multiple tasks on a daily basis.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals)
- Basic computer skills (knowledge of MS Office, various operating systems, and other company software)
- Ability to work with a team, take direction, share resources and support common goals.
- Respond to emergency situations at any hour of the day or night. This includes being in possession of required equipment and tools, designated forms, policies, regulations and manuals.
- Travel approximately 15-20% to remote locations.
Preferred education, experience, certifications, competencies, skills, and abilities:
- Previous experience with supervision and/or asset management within the gas transmission industry.
- Strong mechanical, troubleshooting and maintenance skills associated with engine/compressor units.
- Previous experience in business/financial management.
- Strong project management skills.
