  • Monsanto has an exciting opportunity to put your mining background to use opening a new world-class phosphate operation - the Blackfoot Bridge Mine. The Blackfoot Bridge Mine will be among the most environmentally advanced phosphate mines in North America and you'll play a key role in its development and ongoing operation.  A B.S. in geologic engineering, mining engineering or geology is required and three years of relevant experience is desired for this role.
  • In this role, you'll have three primary responsibilities, (1) the design and monitoring of safe and efficient pit walls and overburden structures, (2) the development, refining, and maintenance of ore body models of the operating phosphate and quartzite mining areas, and (3) oversight  of environmental projects associated with active mining operations.
  • In your leadership capacity, you'll oversee the work of contract personnel and will work closely with the on-site mine services contractor and department staff to fulfill responsibilities.  As a leader you will oversee that work is completed in a safe, environmentally responsible, and cost effective manner.  .
  • Other major responsibilities include:
  • Maintaining and overseeing Monsanto's mineral property and lease records, including payment of appropriate rents, minimum production royalties, and lease renewals.
  • You'll also produce an annual forecast of delivered ore chemistry.
  • Developing, monitoring, and updating accurate geologic maps of the active mining property.
  • Conducting a drilling and mapping program to gather structural, strength, and ore chemistry information for slope design and production forecast efforts.
  • Assisting with MSHA, BLM, State of Idaho Department of Lands, and other governmental inspections.
  • Accurately interpret and map geologic structures.
  • Working closely with engineering staff members to insure use of proper slope designs in development of safe and efficient pit designs.
  • Developing and conducting an effective slope-monitoring program with the assistance of other department staff.
  • Conducting soil sampling and analysis work for the proper design and placement of surface structures such as overburden piles, delineation of wetlands, placement of ancillary facilities, etc.
  • Refining the preliminary ore body model to reflect actual physical and structural geology and chemistry.
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching in the development of other department staff
  • Assist with ore control and exploration drilling as needed.
  • Assisting in the effective use and implementation of statistical process control in the mining process
  • Oversight of environmental sampling and programs associated with active mining operations.
Qualifications



Minimum qualifications to apply for this position are:



  • Bachelor of Science degree in geologic engineering, mining engineering or geology.
  • Experience with various geologic sampling techniques and procedures
  • Working knowledge and familiarity with computer based slope analysis, surveying and drafting software
Desirable qualifications for this position are:



  • Three years of mining or geology related experience
  • Prior experience in topographic and land surveying
  • Experience at a mining or quarry site
  • Knowledge of phosphate or sedimentary geology
  • Proficient computer skills
