Head of Department (Mines) - Government Liaison

Our client is one of the largest refineries of precious metals in the world. They employ over 30 000 employees worldwide. The ideal candidate must meet the following requirements:
 
  • MBA or equivalent with complementary qualification or subject in a Socio Political Science
  • 15 years experience in senior management of which at least 5 years in a mining or a complex and highly regulated business environment
  • Expert understanding of Government on a National, Provincial and Local level
  • Understanding the dynamics of the mining industry
  • Expert knowledge on the Mining Charter
  • Strategic thinking skills and the practical implementation thereof
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish a Government Liaison and Regulatory Affairs Office
  • Lead the effective interaction with Government at National, Provincial and Local level as part of an integrated approach to stakeholder management across the company
  • Manage the Government Liaison and Regulatory Office and provide expert input to the management of the overall Corporate Affairs Function.
  • Maintain a high level working relationship and interaction with the functional executives and/or senior managers in respect of government liaison and provision of professional services.
  • Maintain a high level working relationship and interaction with key National Government individuals to ensure that legislation and policies do not impact negatively on the business of the company. This includes briefing these individuals on the company's activities so that they understand better the industry and the development of partnerships with Government on appropriate projects.
  • Liaise with National Government departments and Regional Governments of the North West and Limpopo (and Mpumalanga) to ensure effective communication and cooperation between the firm and these Government Departments.
  • Engage with various Parliamentary committees to ensure that the firm makes a meaningful contribution to debates on legislation that impact on the business of the company.
  • Engage with various public organisations which may have a direct/indirect impact on the objectives of Anglo Platinum, e.g., SACOB, Chamber of Mines, IDT, Business Trust, MEETI, NEDLAC, BUSA, etc.
  • Provide advice to the Executive Head Corporate Affairs with regard to Government perceptions and strategies or any relevant information which could have a strategic impact on the Business of the organisation
  • Align and interact with the Regulatory Affairs Office of the company
  • Interact with operations where appropriate to ensure proper understanding and delivery on Mining Charter requirements
