Minimum Requirements
  • Qualified attorney or advocate.
  • Experience in laws and legal practice affecting mining and related operations, including mining law commercial law, property law, environmental law, health and safety law, property law, administrative law and competition law.
  • Understanding of relevant mining and related business concepts.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Job Specification
 
Main purpose of job
  • Strategically give direction and legal services to ARM Ferrous department and occasional legal services to ARM, with advice on matters of a legal nature including, contract, commercial, governance and regulation. Creatively, review the development of latest mining law trends.
  • Providing professional support and advice to the Head of Legal services as required.
  • Providing proactive legal assistance and advice on various legal issues within the area of competency.
  • Ensuring proper administration of contracts.
  • Ability to chair meetings.
  • Ensuring that the CE and staff team receive advice on all legal issues that arise during the course of work.
  • Taking a lead role, where appropriate, in contractual and other negotiations, hearings and inquiries and other areas within the area of competency.
  • Assisting the business in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Advising on minimal liability and legal exposure for the business.
  • Ensuring that the legal documents and other contractual documents are effectively drafted, reviewed, interpreted, and vetted.
  • Taking decisive actions on various legal matters and assessing contentious and uncontroversial issues.
  • Managing external and internal legal resources where required.
  • Assessing and advising effectively to minimize and control risks to the company and ensuring that the system, controls and processes are appropriate as relevant.
  • Representing the company in ensuring the efficient handling and winning resolution of all negotiations and disputes. 
  • Advising and ensuring the business in compliance with the necessities of legislation involving data protection and intellectual property.
  • Researching and analyzing implications of case law, legislation, and regulatory matters that affect the company and reporting them back to the Chief Executive of the division.
  • Understanding and interpretation of mining law.
  • Knowledge of pension fund management and administration.
  • Representing the Division in strategic committee meetings where legal background is a requirement.
