Job Description
  • To control all activities related to the preparation of financial statements and disclosures to insure financial information provided is fair, accurate, and prepared consistently with prior period reports and are fairly stated in conformity with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States and for establishing and maintaining effective internal control over all such reports.
Essential Functions (85% of Time):
  • Organization, coordination, direction, mentoring, and ensuring adequate skillsets  of accounting staff. (5%)
  • Maintaining and updating the design and operation of internal control over financial reporting in accordance with GAAP & governmental guidelines. (40%)
  • Facilitating and responding to audits from external independent auditors, internal auditors, governmental (Federal, State & Local) auditors, royalty interest auditors, UMWA auditors and other special interest auditors including banks and lessors. (20%)
  • Supervise Manager-Sales Accounting and Contract Administration in the recording of sales and sales adjustments including demurrage, invoicing, finance arrangements including LoCs with confirmations by US banks and collection of receivables. (5%)
  • Analyzes proposals for capital expenditures to validate reasonableness of benefits claimed and the economics of alternative choices. When leasing is considered, responsible for the contractual compliance of leases and participates in the negotiations for the lease as required and requested by Treasury. (5%)
  • Review and assist in preparation and reporting of budget and planning data. (5%)
  • Review & approve invoices, expense reports & master vendor file changes for Accounts Payable. (5%)
Additional Functions (15% of Time)
  • Tax issues – Property, Sales & Use, Excise, Severance, Reclamation and Income including percentage depletion analysis. (5%)
  • Month-end and Quarter-end report preparation and reviews including data provided for 10Q(K), news releases, and materials requested for conference calls. (5%)
  • Other duties as assigned by the department head. (5%)
Job Requirements
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities as might be expected from an individual with . . .
  • An undergraduate degree in accounting/finance with MBA &/or CPA preferred.
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressively more responsible accounting and finance experience within a company(s) with a global presence.
  • Experience in hiring and managing professional level employees.
  • Experience in effectively communicating with all levels of management and operations.
  • Experience in working autonomously.
  • Position requires a strong sense of urgency and the ability to prioritize competing time demands.
  • Position requires the ability to encourage employees to successfully maintain professional credentials and qualifications.
